Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will spend another Christmas in the UK away from the royal family after relocating to the US. Reports suggest the couple will not attend Christmas celebrations with the rest of the British royal family at Sandringham due to their continued separation from the Windsors.
According to a source cited by People magazine, the hosts did not invite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to join other members of the royal family for the Christmas gathering, which is usually held at Norfolk House each year. The couple last attended a royal get-together in 2018 to mark their one-year wedding anniversary. Instead, they are set to spend the holidays in the United States, where they have been living since stepping down from royal duties in 2020.
Tension continues within the royal family due to differences of opinion between Harry and Prince William, as well as their father King Charles. Reports suggest that Harry’s attempts to reach out to his family, especially the king, on personal and family matters have been met with silence. The separation comes after a series of very public rifts, including Harry’s scathing memoir Spare, a revealing and candid 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey that criticized the royal institution, and other controversies.
However, King Charles and his Queen Camilla, Prince William, his wife Kate Middleton and their children, George, Charlotte and Louis, will continue the Victorian era tradition on Christmas Day at Sandringham.
Kate Middleton recently posted a holiday card message, announcing their upcoming get-together at a Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey. “A special letter that reflects the importance of love, empathy and how much we need each other in the darkest of times. It will be given to each guest at the Together at Christmas Carol service at Westminster Abbey,” she wrote on Instagram. ” And fifteen community carol services across the country thank participants for all they do for others.”
After the challenging personal year the royal family faced when King Charles and the Princess of Wales announced their cancer diagnoses, their holiday celebrations are looking very different this time. The monarch no longer returns Prince Harry’s calls, People reports. However, despite the rift, the royals have vowed to pursue more family traditions and togetherness, just like the late Queen Elizabeth did during the holiday season.
