Actor Pratik Smita Patil reflected on the image of strong women in the present times. She also spoke about how her late mother Smita Patil paved the way for female actors with her bold choices.
Pratik, in an interview with Indian Expresswas asked how the image of a strong woman has changed from Smita’s films in the 1970s and 80s to the current era of shows like Four More Shots Please! She said, “I don’t think things have changed much. The narrative is still the same, where women are trying to be strong and portray who they really are and want to be. The stories and the cinema will be different, but it’s the same narrative.”
“When my mother was around, she made some bold choices. In a way, she paved the way for many women to stand up for themselves. Today there are women who are doing 100%. Four of them, and a lot more. Times are changing. You can’t call this industry a man’s world anymore. It still isn’t, but women can take decisions. This was not the scenario 20, 30, 40 or 50 years ago. I yearn for a world like this. Can’t wait for where women are ruling, it’s inevitable.”
“What Four more shots please! This is women empowerment in its own way. Women are trying to be themselves, and if you have a problem with that then fuck off. You don’t pay their bills. They have their own jobs. They’re going to choose the men they want,” he said.
Pratik was recently seen Four more shots please! With Sayani Gupta, Kirti Kulhari, Bani J and Maanvi Gagroo in pivotal roles. Lisa Ray, Rajeev Siddharth, Ankur Rathi, Milind Soman, Dino Morea, Anasuya Sengupta, Kunal Roy Kapur and others also play lead roles in the show.
