Drew Barrymore, 49, has come under fire from netizens for the way she interviews her guests on her show. Now, the actress has spoken about why she conducts her interviews this way and what she will practice going forward to get closer to her guests.

According to Page Six , the Drew Barrymore Show host recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight and said that moving forward, she will be “practicing physical distancing” with her guests, even though it’s not her “strong suit.”

“First and foremost, we’re always going to grow up with joy, laughter and feeling good,” she said. The 49-year-old actress explained that it was something she always wanted to do, but she never imagined they’d be launching the show during a pandemic. It was really “weird and wacky” to rely on that joy and “feel good” humor during a time like this.

She elaborated on how the pandemic affected her. The Charlie’s Angels star said she was lonely in the studio. She loves being around people.

Many on the internet slammed the actress for her behavior with her guests, especially after she was seen caressing Oprah Winfrey while she was sitting on the couch during an episode of her show.

Many thought The Color Purple star tried to run away from the host. But then Oprah defended Barrymore’s behavior and told TMZ that she “felt comfortable with the stroking,” and that it “wasn’t uncomfortable at all.”

Many people online also created memes about the state of the show and they continued to circulate on social media platforms.

The 50 First Dates star told ET that her style of interviewing guests, “is not to everybody’s liking.” She also talked about how her show has grown and how much it has accomplished ahead of its Season 5 premiere in September.

“I always think when good things happen, you talk about how it wasn’t easy. It didn’t just happen. We had years of uncertainty. So, that makes it even more delicious,” Barrymore said.
