Last year, the Poco X7 series proved to be quite popular among those looking for a budget-friendly yet capable phone. This year, a new tier in the series has been introduced, the larger Max, which comes with a flagship-class chipset on top of a massive battery.

Poco X8 Pro Max
The new larger display brings with it two features – an ultrasonic fingerprint reader and a larger battery. Fittingly, the Max packs an 8,500mAh Si/C battery, the largest in Poco’s history. It supports 100W HyperCharge/PPS and 27W reverse charging. With the appropriate adapter, the phone can charge to 50% in just 24 minutes.

The thickness of the phone is 8.2 mm and weight is 218 grams. The global model has an IP69K rating, although in some regions the phone only has an IP68 rating. Either way, the phone has a metal frame and a fiberglass back.
Additionally, it has a dynamic RGB light, which can glow in 8 colors and show charging status, notifications, camera activity or keep pace with the music. Talking about music, the phone has dual 1115F symmetrical speakers with high-res audio and Dolby Atmos.

The Poco X8 Pro Max is the first X-series model to feature a flagship-class chipset, the Dimensity 9500s. It’s a 3nm chip with all the big cores (1x Cortex-X925 Ultra + 3x Cortex-X4 + 4x Cortex-A720 at 3.73GHz) and an Immortalis-G925 GPU. This is essentially a tuned up Dimension 9400+ from last year.
Poco says you can play popular games (for example Honkai: Star Rails and Genshin Impact) at 120fps with the help of Super Resolution technology. The chipset is kept cooled by the Poco 3D IceLoop system, which includes a 5,800 mm² vapor chamber. The phone has up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM (9,600Mbps) and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Poco X8 Pro It has a 6.59″ display – which is smaller than the Max and also slightly smaller than the 6.67″ diagonal that was used by almost all previous X-series phones. It’s a 12-bit panel with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 1,268 x 2,756px resolution. Like the larger Max display, it does 2,000 nits in HBM and peaks at 3,500 nits (25% APL) with 3,840 Hz PWM dimming. Note that it still uses an optical fingerprint reader.

The phone has a metal frame and Gorilla Glass 7i on the front. Its thickness is 8.38 mm and weight is 201 grams. The back has the same dynamic RGB lighting. Like the Pro Max, the Pro is rated IP69K (except in some regions where it has an IP68 rating).

The Si/C battery is small, although at 6,500mAh capacity, it’s still larger than the batteries inside flagships from mainstream brands. It supports uniform 100W charging (both HyperCharge and PPS) and can charge 100% in 48 minutes. You can use the phone to charge other devices at 27W.
The X8 Pro is powered by the Dimensity 8500-Ultra, a 4nm chip with 8x Cortex-A725 cores and a Mali-G720 GPU. It has a 5,300mm² 3D dual-layer Iceloop cooling system. The chipset is coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

The X8 Pro and Both are 1/1.95″ sensors with 0.8µm pixels and sit behind an OIS-enabled lens with a wide f/1.5 aperture. The other cameras on the rear are 8MP ultra-wide (f/2.2) modules, while the selfie cameras use a 20MP sensor.
Like the Max, the Poco X8 Pro features dual speakers with Hi-Res audio and Dolby Atmos. Both phones support Wi-Fi 6 (AX), Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and Xiaomi Offline Communication.
