PM sit next to each other at the summit dinner in Younis Bangkok, Bangladesh

In Bangladesh, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Muhammad Yunus on Thursday sat together during the official dinner organized by the Thai Prime Minister Patongtern Shinwatra for the states and heads of the governments attending the Bimstec Summit in Banksk.

The official X handle of the Chief Advisor of the Bangladesh government posted the screen tombs of the two leaders sitting together on the dinner table as Thai PM welcomed the Bimstec leaders.

Local media in Bangladesh quoted Chief Advisor Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad as saying that the two leaders “met each other during the official dinner”.

The interim government has been eager to hold bilateral talks between the two leaders on the edge of the Bimstec summit in Bangkok for the first time.

The Bimstec chairmanship will be officially handed over to Bangladesh on Friday.

Khalilur Rahman, the high representative of the Chief Advisor on the Rohingya and Khalilur Rahman, said on Wednesday that Bimstec member will discuss his future work with the states leader Younis and there is a scope to hold a meeting between Yunus and PM Narendra Modi.

Rehman, while addressing a press briefing in Bangladesh ahead of the Bimstec summit in Thailand, said, “We requested India to talk about it (between leaders of two countries) … there is enough possibility to organize this meeting.”

Last week, PM Modi wrote a letter to Younus on the occasion of National Day of Bangladesh, in which the importance of mutual sensitivity was highlighted, referring to the Bangladesh Liberation War.

PM Modi wrote, “We are committed to advancing this partnership, which is inspired by our common aspirations for peace, stability and prosperity, and is based on mutual sensitivity to each other’s interests and concerns.”

New Delhi is concerned about the deteriorating law and order situation in Bangladesh under the current interim government. In August 2024, the Unis rule has been severely criticized for acquitting extremist elements under the leadership of Awami League government under the leadership of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“We support a stable, peaceful, inclusive and progressive Bangladesh in which all issues are conducted through democratic means and inclusive and participation.

As Bangladesh has accused Yumns of giving an independent hand to the Islamist forces in the country, as Bangladesh, while slipping into the abyss after the Awami League government’s collapse and also comfortably resting the policy of essential security approval for Pakistani citizens, thus the facility of easy withdrawal of many notorious terrorist suspects.

Due to no end to attack on minorities in Bangladesh, especially on members related to Hindu and Ahmadiyya communities, Mea has repeatedly highlighted serious issues and interim government’s bottled up checks which are just one eyewitness.

“We have repeatedly underlined that it is the responsibility of the interim government of Bangladesh to protect Hindus and other minorities, as well as their properties and religious institutions have been seen. Mea spokesperson mentions in the past,” to investigate and bring all criminals of murders, arson and violence for justice without making such a distinction.

Minister of External Affairs (EAM) S. Jaishankar during his meeting with Bangladesh Foreign Affairs advisor Tauhid Hussain in Muscat, stated that it is important that Bangladesh should not normalize terrorism.
