In a special gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced the issuance of foreign national (OCI) card for his Mauritius counterpart Naveen Ramgulam and his husband or wife Veena Ramgulam.
The announcement was made by more than 3,500 people in a community program, including members of the Mauritius cabinet, government officials and members of the National Assembly.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi presented the OCI cards to Mauritius President Dharmabare Gokhul and First Lady Vrinda Gokhul. The handover occurred on the first day of his state visit, which outlines India’s commitment to his community and bilateral relations with Mauritius.
During the visit to President Draupadi Murmu’s state Mauritius in March 2024, India increased the eligibility for the OCI card for the OCI card for the OCI card for the Indian dynasty, which is up to the seventh generation – an initiative aimed at promoting close relations with the Indian community.
Mauritius is home to 22,188 Indian citizens and 13,198 OCI card holders, which shows the important presence of the Indian community in the country.
The OCI gives card holders the right to live, work and study indefinitely in India, while also facilitates visa-free travel and other privileges.
Mauritius has long maintained a welcome stance on Indian visitors, starting a visa-free rule for Indian tourists a month ago in 2004. In mutuality, the citizens of Mauritius deserve Gratis visas to travel to India, which further relax people from people.
PM Modi’s visit, which continues till March 12, is expected to be involved in major announcements in the last day, including signing at least eight memorandum (MoU) in areas such as maritime security, culture and community development projects.
He will also inaugurate at least 23 India-funded projects and is likely to announce new projects for the South East African Island nation.
