PM Modi addresses the 3rd Voice of Global South Summit held in India

India today hosted the third edition of the Voice of the Global South Summit, an event based on the philosophy of India. ‘The whole world is a family’,

This summit is an extension of the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ‘Everyone’s support, everyone’s development, everyone’s trust and everyone’s efforts’The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement earlier this week.

It envisages bringing together countries of the Global South on one platform to share their perspectives and priorities on various issues.

The Ministry of External Affairs said that with the overarching theme of “Empowering Global South for a Sustainable Future”, the 3rd Voice of the Global South Summit (VOGSS) will serve as a platform to take forward the discussions held in previous Summits on various complex challenges affecting the world, such as conflicts, food and energy security crises, climate change – all of which disproportionately impact developing countries.

In its weekly briefing yesterday, the Ministry of External Affairs said that all countries of the Global South have been invited to the summit.

At the Summit, countries of the Global South will continue to deliberate on challenges, priorities and solutions for the Global South, especially in the developmental sector.

The 3rd VOGSS will be held in virtual format and will be structured into leaders’ sessions and ministerial sessions.

The inaugural session at the Head of State/Government level will be hosted by Prime Minister Modi. The theme of the Leaders’ Session is the same as the overarching theme of the Summit, i.e., “Empowering the Global South for a Sustainable Future”.

In addition, there will be 10 Ministerial Sessions, namely, Foreign Ministers’ Session on “Crafting a Unique Paradigm for the Global South”, Health Ministers’ Session on “One World-One Health”, Youth Ministers’ Session on “Youth Engagement for a Better Future”, Commerce/Trade Ministers’ Session on “Trade for Development- A Global South Perspective”, IT Ministers’ Session on “DPI for Development- A Global South Perspective”, Finance Ministers’ Session on “People-Centric Approach to Global Finance”, 2nd Foreign Ministers’ Session on “Global South and Global Governance”, Energy Ministers’ Session on “Sustainable Energy Solutions for a Sustainable Future”, Education Ministers’ Session on “Prioritizing Human Resource Development: A Global South Perspective”, Environment Ministers’ Session on “Pathways to Progress- A Global South Perspective on Mitigating Climate Change”

India will host the 1st Voices of the Global South Summit (VOGSS) on January 12-13, 2023 and the 2nd Voices of the Global South Summit on November 17, 2023, both in virtual format.

Both the previous editions of the Summit were attended by over 100 countries from the Global South. The inputs and feedback received from the leaders of developing countries at both these Summits were duly reflected in the agenda and discussions of the G20 Summit chaired by India last year, including the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.
