PM meets Zelensky at G7, assures support for peaceful resolution of Ukraine conflict
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi told Zelensky that India believes in a “human-centric” approach to finding a solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that India will continue to do everything within its means to find a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict and that the path to peace lies through “dialogue and diplomacy”.
The upcoming Swiss peace conference for Ukraine was also discussed in the Modi-Zelensky talks held on the sidelines of the G-7 summit in Apulia, Italy, and the Ukrainian President thanked the Prime Minister for sending a high-level delegation to the conference held over the weekend in Switzerland.
During the meeting, Modi told Zelensky that India believes in a “human-centric” approach to finding a solution to the conflict in Ukraine.
In a post on ‘X’, the Ukrainian President said that he and Modi discussed the Peace Summit and issues on its agenda and thanked the Indian Prime Minister for sending a high-level delegation to it.
Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs Pawan Kapoor will lead the Indian delegation at the peace summit, officials said.
Modi described the meeting with the Ukrainian President as “very productive” and said India is looking forward to “further strengthening” bilateral ties with Ukraine.
“Had a very useful meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. India looks forward to further strengthening bilateral ties with Ukraine,” Modi said on ‘X’.
“With regard to the current hostility, he reiterated that India believes in a human-centric approach and believes that the path to peace lies through dialogue and diplomacy,” he said.
The Ministry of External Affairs said Modi and Zelensky exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine and the upcoming peace summit in Switzerland.
“The Prime Minister said that India will continue to encourage a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy and reiterated that India will continue to do everything within its means to support a peaceful resolution,” it said.
It said Modi thanked President Zelenskyy for his warm wishes on assuming office for his third term.
“We discussed the development of bilateral relations and trade, especially in the context of the functioning of the Black Sea export corridor,” Zelensky said on ‘X’.
“We considered the possibility of exchanging experience in the use of new technologies in agriculture,” he said.
“We also discussed the Global Peace Summit and issues on its agenda. I thank Prime Minister Modi for sending a high-level delegation to the summit,” the Ukrainian President said.
Switzerland is hosting several global leaders on June 15 and 16 in an effort to chart out a roadmap to bring peace in Ukraine. The Indian delegation at the summit is expected to be led by a senior diplomat.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine.
“Taking forward the India-Ukraine partnership, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Zelenskyy of Ukraine on the sidelines of the 50th G-7 Summit in Apulia, Italy,” he said on ‘X’.
He said, “The leaders reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine. The Prime Minister noted that India will continue to encourage a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.”
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra were part of Modi’s delegation at the talks.
Zelensky is believed to have briefed Modi on various aspects of the conflict.
The two leaders discussed the possibility of developing bilateral relations and exchanging experience in the use of new technologies in agriculture, the Ukrainian release said.
“The President spoke about the functioning of the Black Sea Transport Corridor, which will make it possible to increase the turnover of sunflower oil exports and other categories of cargo to India,” it said.
It said Zelensky “briefed Modi on preparations for the Global Peace Summit and thanked the Indian Prime Minister for the expected attendance of the high-level delegation at the event. The leaders discussed the agenda of the summit.”
Modi had also met Zelensky during the G-7 summit held in Hiroshima in May last year.
India says the conflict in Ukraine must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
This meeting between Modi and Zelensky took place before the Swiss Peace Summit.
India on Wednesday said it will participate at an “appropriate level” in the upcoming peace summit on the Ukraine conflict. Switzerland has invited Prime Minister Modi to attend it.
