Pizza delivery worker stabs pregnant woman 14 times over $2 tip

A pizza delivery worker in Florida allegedly stabbed a pregnant woman 14 times after being dissatisfied with a $2 (approximately Rs 170) tip, according to police. The incident occurred at a motel a few days ago when 22-year-old Brianna Alvelo delivered an order to a family celebrating a birthday. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reported that Alvelo returned to the motel with an accomplice and carried out the attack.

“Alvelo later returned to the victim’s motel room with an unknown male suspect, who was armed with a firearm, and forced entry into the room. Alvelo, who was armed with a knife, began attacking one of the victims. The victim was stabbed multiple times, and items were taken from within the room,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

The victim, her boyfriend and her 5-year-old daughter were in the motel room at the time of the attack, NBC News reports.

Alvelo delivered the pizza, which cost a total of $33 (roughly Rs. 2,800), but was unable to exchange the money for a $50 (roughly Rs. 4,300) bill. The customer then searched for smaller denominations and ultimately gave Alvelo only a $2 tip, authorities said. Alvelo reportedly returned 90 minutes later in her red Toyota with a masked accomplice, who was captured on security footage.

As soon as the intruders came inside, the woman tried to save her child. Police records show that the victim’s back was injured while trying to save her daughter and her phone was broken when she tried to call for help.

Alvelo then stabbed the woman 14 times, while his accomplice, armed with a gun, kept shouting at them to run away. As soon as the police arrived, the attackers fled from the spot and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where her condition was said to be stable.

During medical treatment the victim came to know that she was pregnant.

The next day, authorities arrested Alvelo, but his accomplice is still at large. Alvelo is charged with attempted murder, home invasion with a firearm, assault and kidnapping. He is being held in the Osceola County Jail without bond.

Marco’s Pizza, where Alvelo worked, issued a statement expressing sadness and regret over the incident. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident. The local owner and his team are cooperating fully with local authorities, who have launched an investigation. The safety and well-being of customers and team members is always our top priority and we are taking this incident very seriously, the company said in a statement to WKMG-TV News.
