Google is launching the new Pixel 9 series globally on August 13 and in India on August 14. While the series is expected to come with several significant upgrades and even introduce a new Pixel model, Google may not launch the series with Android 15. Instead, the phones will come with Android 14 and will reportedly receive Android 15 via an OTA update. This will break Google’s tradition of officially releasing the new Android upgrade alongside the launch of the new Pixel phones.

According to Android Headline, Google will introduce the Pixel 9 series with Android 14 OS even though we are close to the final release of Android 15. Historically, Google has synchronized the launch of its Pixel devices with the latest Android OS. For instance, last year the Pixel 8 was launched with Android 14, though it was slightly delayed due to bug issues. Prior to that, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 were also launched with Android 13 and Android 12, respectively. However, this time, reports suggest that Google will break this tradition as Android 15 is still in the final stages of testing.

Although the final release of Android 15 is drawing near, Google recently rolled out its last scheduled beta, but the final version is unlikely to be ready until August 13. Why the delay? This year, Google is launching its new Pixel series in October, two months ahead of the traditional launch dates, which usually follows the launch of iPhones. However, this year, Google decided to release the Pixel 9 before the iPhone 16, which could lead to a slight delay in Google’s OS rollout plans. However Pixel 9 users won’t have to wait for long as Android 15 is already in advanced stages of development.

Additionally, whenever Android 15 is released, Pixel 9 users will receive comprehensive support, including seven years of updates, Pixel Drops, OS upgrades, and security patches, ensuring support until at least August 2031.

Meanwhile, according to leaks about the Pixel 9 series, this year it is speculated that Google will launch 4 Pixel phones in this series including Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, which offer storage options starting from 128GB, while the Pro models can go up to 1TB. The Pixel 9 will come with 12GB of RAM, while the Pro model will have 16GB of RAM.

In terms of charging and battery, the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro are expected to charge up to 55 percent in 30 minutes, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL will reach 70 percent in the same period, using the new 45W USB-C charger. This will be a significant improvement over the current 30W charger available from Google. The Pixel 9 Pro XL is also said to have a slightly larger 5,060 mAh battery than its predecessor. Google is also expected to claim 24 hours of battery life for all models, with the Extreme Battery Saver mode likely to extend battery life by up to 100 hours.
