Finally, Ory gives the latest variation to popcorn a unique twist. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told the 55th GST Council meeting that the GST rate on unpacked and unlabeled popcorn mixed with salt and spices is 5 percent, the GST rate on caramelized popcorn is 18 percent.

The social media sensation shared a video in which she showed off different types of popcorn on a cart. Pointing to the salty and caramelized snacks, he said, “Here we have ‘namkeen’ (salted) popcorn and here we have ‘non-salted’ (unsalted) popcorn. This is 5% GST, this is 18% GST, I am also 18% GST.”
