Pros

  • silent operation
  • stylish design
  • good app support

Shortcoming

  • heavy size

Living in Delhi, where the air quality index (AQI) often crosses 500 during peak pollution season, it’s hard not to be concerned about the air I breathe. The dense smoke can be overwhelming, especially during the winter months, and it worries me about the potential long-term effects on my health. That’s when I decided to review the Philips 4200 Series Pro Air Purifier, which is the newest and most powerful air purifier the company offers at the moment. Priced at Rs 25,995, this air purifier proved to be a savior in many ways without breaking the bank. It comes with a dozen smart features including real-time AQI updates, Wi-Fi support, and intuitive touch controls. Let’s learn more about the device in this review.

Design and build quality

When I first unpacked the Philips 4200 Series Pro, I was impressed by its sleek and modern design. It has a minimalist, cylindrical shape that fits easily into any space without looking bulky. This can be a great cosmetic addition to your living room as it comes in posh gray color and has a small Philips badge on the front.

The build quality feels solid and premium, making me feel like I have a high-end product. I appreciated the intuitive interface on top, with touch controls that are easy to use. One of my favorite features is the color-changing AQI light ring, which gives me instant visual feedback on the air quality in my home. It also works as a soft night light, which I found comfortable. Removing the filter is also quite easy. Overall, it is compact, unobtrusive and easily fits into any room.

Features and performance

What really sets the Philips 4200 Series Pro apart is its four-layer filtration system. The HEPA NanoProtect filter is capable of capturing 99.97 percent of particles as small as 0.003 microns – smaller than the smallest known virus!

The purifier comes with four sensors – which track PM2.5, temperature, humidity and gases (TVOC) – ensuring that air quality is accurately monitored and managed. Whenever there was smoke in my kitchen due to seasoning or frying, the ring of the air purifier would turn red and the smoke would disappear within a few seconds. Similarly, I noticed that whenever I lit agarbatti the purifier activated immediately, it effectively eliminated both the smell and smoke within seconds.

Another exceptional feature is the CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) of 600 m3/h, which allows the purifier to effectively clean large spaces (up to 156m²). I’ve been using it in my living room, which is the largest room in my house, and I’ve noticed that it’s able to clean the air in less than 5 to 7 minutes, which is impressive. Even in Turbo mode, which is designed for maximum power, the purifier remains surprisingly quiet thanks to SilentWings technology.

The purifier’s automatic mode does a great job of adjusting to changing air quality. I have noticed that it automatically increases the fan speed when I open windows and doors, especially on polluted days. Watching the AQI light ring change color – from red to green – gives me instant peace of mind that the purifier is working efficiently. It also helps me measure air quality in real time, as the numerical AQI display on the app tracks fluctuations throughout the day.

The most notable change I’ve experienced since using the purifier is the improvement in my allergy symptoms – at least when I’m inside my home. On days with high pollution, I used to experience frequent nasal congestion and sneezing, but since I started testing this air purifier my symptoms have reduced significantly. I also noticed that my sleep improved. Breathing clean air at night has helped me sleep better and feel refreshed when I wake up.

App provides real time AQI updates

Philips air purifier has app support, which comes with a user-friendly interface. The Air+ app is an excellent addition to the Philips 4200 Series Pro. Connecting to the app is easy, and I now have the ability to control the air purifier from anywhere. Whether I’m at home or at work, I can check the air quality, adjust the fan speed, or even turn the purifier on or off – all from my phone, where I am too. The app also provides me with detailed information about the air quality in my home, and it alerts me when the filter needs changing. I find this feature extremely useful, because I no longer have to guess when it’s time to make a change.

Should you buy the Philips 4200 Series Pro Air Purifier?

The Philips 4200 Series Pro air purifier has been an absolute lifesaver for me. Not only does it provide powerful air purification, but it is also quiet, smart, and easy to use. The four-layer filtration system is highly effective in removing allergens, dust, viruses and even gases from the air. AeraSense technology ensures that the purifier adjusts its speed based on real-time air quality, and the Air+ app makes it easy to monitor and control the purifier, even when I’m away from home. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an air purifier under around Rs 25,000.
