Perplexity- Operated truth social AI can limit information sources, which you see can give donald trump control over it
Donald Trump’s Truth Social App recently operated an AI search tool by perplexity, but with control over its information sources, which is raising concerns about selective access to news and potential political impacts.

In short
- Truth can limit social AI sources to conservative outlets
- Perplexity confirms truth social controls that use source AI
- Trump’s Executive Orders demand “ideologically neutral” artificial intelligence equipment
Truth Social, the social media platform supported by US President Donald Trump, has rolled out an artificial intelligence-manual search engine that can give significant impact on what its users see. The new tool called Truth Search AI is operated by technology from San Francisco-based AI Start-up Perplexity. It is currently available on the web platform of Truth Social, in which public beta test for iOS and Android apps is required “in the near future”.
The Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) says that AI will provide “direct, relevant answer” with transparent quotes to promote the amount of information on the platform. But it was also confirmed that the company controls that the AI that can pull from the sources means that the search results can be shaped by its editorial decisions.
Truth Search AI uses Sonar API of Perplexity, which can get real -time information on the Internet, even from sites that block the crawler of perplexity. However, Perplexity spokesman JC Dwire told * Techcrunch * that AI would only be as wide or narrow as the truth allows social permission. “We have no visibility or control over him,” he said. “It is similar to using API inside your own company or finding your own data.”
Testing by AXIOS suggests that the search engine often bends heavily on the correct media. When asked “What happened on January 6, 2021?” And “Why Donald Trump was impeached?”, The most common or only sources were cited which were foxnews.com, foxbusiness.com, Washington Times and The Appoc Times. In contrast, the public search engine of perplexity usually refers to a variety of outlets including Wikipedia, NPR, Politico and YouTube.
Dmitry Sheveveenko, Chief Business Officer of Perplexity, stated that the quotes of the system allow users to “excavate” in any answer.
Trump pushes to “ideologically neutral” AI as launch. In July, he signed an executive order, which he called the “biased AI”, which sing concepts such as systemic racism and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as “comprehensive and destructive” ideologies that can distort the output.
The partnership between Truth Social and Perplexity comes amidst a broad step to integrate AI into social platforms by tech companies, similar to the Groke Chatbot of Elon Musk on Instagram and WhatsApp’s X and Meta AI assistant. It also comes during the increasing investigation into the role of AI in information control. While some tests of the truth discovery have shown important reactions to the policies of the trump-era, the platform’s ability to narrow its sources question whether technology can be used to shape political narratives.
