Perplexity brings its Comet AI browser to Android, soon it will search the web on your behalf
AI search company Perplexity has launched its Comet browser for Android, bringing advanced AI tools like smart summaries and voice modes to mobile users.

Perplexity has launched its Comet AI browser for Android phone users, expanding the company’s reach to smartphones after rolling out the browser on desktops earlier this year. With an Android-specific browsing experience, the company aims to provide users with an AI-assisted way to navigate the web directly on their smartphones. Users can access the AI browser app to automate tasks, research the web, and organize emails.
The Android version includes the same core capabilities as its desktop counterpart. Users get an on-page AI assistant, a voice mode for hands-free interaction, and the option to set Perplexity as the default search engine. The AI assistant can answer questions related to the webpage the user is viewing, create a summary of open tabs, and assist with navigation without leaving the browser.
What users can do on Comet AI browser for Android
AI Browser brings many features, including:
smart summary
One of the key features of the Comet Android app is smart summarization, which uses AI to generate quick, concise overviews of articles or open tabs. This summary tool helps users understand the main points of a page without reading the entire text. This is useful when scanning reports, research materials, or long-form content. “Smart Summary on Comet for Android gives you the ability to summarize content across all of your open tabs, not just the page you have open,” the company says.
built-in ad blocker
The browser also includes an ad blocker to reduce page clutter and improve loading times. “Like Comet on your desktop, you can whitelist sites you trust,” the official blog post reads.
voice mode
The Comet AI browser on Android also has a voice mode, allowing users to browse or request information without typing.
AI assistant
Comet for Android includes the same AI assistant found on desktop. Users can ask follow-up questions, get clarifications, and assign tasks for the Assistant to handle directly within the browser.
More features coming soon
Tangle has confirmed that more capabilities are on the way. These include a conversation agent that can search across multiple websites and take action directly, custom shortcuts to speed up routine tasks, and a built-in password manager. For now, until Perplexity releases its own version, users can rely on Android’s native password manager.
Increasing competition for smarter and more automated browsing
The launch of Comet AI for Android by Perplexity comes amid a growing demand for smarter and more automated browsing tools, with new features and enhancements increasingly tailored for the mobile platform. While major competitors like OpenAI, Opera, and The Browser Company (Ark) are still focusing primarily on desktop versions, Google’s Gemini AI inside Chrome offers features but functions more like an extension than a standalone AI browser. In contrast, Perplexity is building an AI-centric browser with integrated mobile support from the ground up.
