Pathan was a much-awaited film of 2023 which marked the return of Shahrukh Khan to the big screen after 4 years. However, before its release, its song Besharam Rang starring Deepika Padukone and Shahrukh Khan had created a major controversy. In a new interview, the song’s singer Shilpa Rao said that she and the team were calm amid the chaos. He told that the team wanted people to understand and like the song in their own way. Therefore he did not pay much attention to the threats.
In Besharam, Deepika Padukone is shown dancing with Shahrukh in different beachwear outfits. One was an orange bikini, which caused quite a stir among right-wing organizations. Threats against the team and demands to ban the song made the situation worse.
In a new conversation with The Lallantop, its singer Shilpa Rao was asked what her thoughts were on this entire controversy? In his reply he said, ‘Nothing, we all knew about it.’ He kept it brief and explained that he and the team didn’t think too much and just focused on people’s reactions.
Rao mentioned that, contrary to the controversy, it is a beautiful song created to empower people. As a result, they wanted people to listen to and like them.
He added, “I mean, it was just that we wanted people to enjoy it on their own terms, other than that. We wanted people to get the song, which means the song is empowering to you and your Celebrating. That’s what we wanted to happen; that’s why we wanted people to understand and embrace it.”
Despite threats and demands, no action was taken against the manufacturers. ‘Pathan’ proved to be a blockbuster at the box office and the song received 677 million views on YouTube, which shows its success.
Shilpa Rao began her formal journey in music during her college days when composer and singer Mithun Sharma asked her to record a rendition of Anwar’s song “Tose Naina”. He has lent his voice to popular songs like ‘Chaleya,’ ‘Tere Hawale,’ ‘Malang,’ ‘Bulleya,’ ‘Khuda Jaane,’ ‘Subhanallah’ and other popular songs.
