Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received a long applause when he addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), insisting that “We will not leave, Palestine is our homeland,” and “If anyone has to leave, it will be Will be the one taking possession”.
He accused Israel of waging a “full-scale genocidal war”, rejecting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s claims that Israel did not kill civilians in Gaza.
“I ask you, then who is it who killed more than 15,000 children?” He said on Thursday.
Abbas said, “Stop this crime. Stop it now. Stop killing children and women. Stop the genocide. Stop sending weapons to Israel. This madness cannot continue. There is full accountability for what is happening to our people.” The world is responsible.”
During his speech, Abbas called on the international community to impose sanctions on Israel and expel it from the United Nations after “the massacre in Gaza”.
The Palestinian president said, “We call for sanctions against Israel. Israel does not deserve to be part of this organization. I don’t know how the US can insist on depriving us of our rights.”
He also discussed the situation of settlers in the West Bank, pointing out that 600,000 settlers currently live there.
“We want the ICJ (International Court of Justice) decision on Israel to be implemented,” he said.
Abbas concluded, “Palestine will be independent despite anyone’s opposition. Our people will live in the land of their fathers and grandfathers…the occupation will end.”

Meanwhile, Netanyahu on Thursday instructed his forces to keep fighting “with all their might”, as a high-level international diplomatic effort got underway to prevent conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
Netanyahu is heading to New York for the UNGA, while members of his government have rejected a ceasefire proposal put forward by the US, European allies and several Arab countries.
Israel’s military launched new attacks in Lebanon, including an attack in the capital Beirut that targeted the commander of Hezbollah’s drone unit.
The UNGA adopted a resolution on 10 May supporting Palestine’s effort to become a full UN member and recommending that the Security Council “reconsider the matter favourably”.
The resolution was adopted with 143 votes in favor and nine against, including the US and Israel, while 25 countries abstained. China voted in favor of the resolution.
The resolution states, “The State of Palestine… should be admitted into membership” and “recommends that the Security Council reconsider this matter favourably”.
