No justification – cultural or medicine

FGM is usually performed on girls between infancy and the age of 15. Despite increasing awareness, the sheer number of low -risk girls remains dangerous – more than four million this year is expected to pass through FGM alone, according to WHO. While the global spread rate has declined slightly, population growth in countries where FGM is practiced, which means that the total number may still increase.

• Need for later surgery
• Psychological problems (depression, anxiety, ptsd, low self -esteem)
