Why can’t we take care of our aging parents, similarly we take care of our children? Veteran actor Shabana Azmi raised this poignant question at a recent event in Gurugram. The 74 -year -old actor emphasized the need to consider old age as a second childhood and to have more sensitivity towards aging.

“When my mother (Shaukat Azmi) was on aging, I felt that we deal with aging. So, if our parents get old, we allow them to stay in their room. Once in a blue moon, they will come out for Holi, Diwali, or Eid, otherwise, she is lying at home. I used to work at home anytime.

Aging parents care

Shabana questioned why it is acceptable for children to travel with excessive goods, but not for parents.

“If I had a child, everyone would accept that I have to take so much Salmon (Luggage) with me for the child. So, why not for my parents? He has done this for me for so many years. I am what I am because of them, why not? I will continue to give them visibility. The innocent actor said that old people should lead as a natural and dignified life.

Shabana Azmi’s daughter Famous Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi, It is believed that if people start considering old age as a second childhood, things will be easy to take care and those aging. He insisted that children should “change the face” of their aging parents.

The actor said, “We need to bring it into our head that old age is just our childhood; it does not seem just sexy. I think when we shift (home), we did not consider how our parents are uprooted. When we shift, we don’t think only about our children, and their friends.”

In India, Shabana believes that there is a dire need to increase sensitivity towards older people, rather than just think of them as a blessing.

“We are happy to put them (our aging parents) on a chair, but do not make them a part of our everyday life. We only think, ‘The house comes from the house, the house is a barkat Sensitivity, we do not have. ‘(We only think that we thrive with the presence of our elders, but there is a lack of sensitivity to allow them to live their lives), “the experienced actor expressed.

Shabana was a careful in her parents’ last days. He recalled that it was not easy to accept for his “fiercely independent parents” that he needed help.

“It was difficult for them to accept me as a career, as they were both very independent men. They never knew that they would need any kind of assistance,” Shabana shared.

Whereas Shaukat Azmi and Kaifi Azmi Still was comfortable with helping him with Shabana, no one else liked to help him -because people were unaware of how to help him properly.

“My father had a brain stroke, which was made paralyzed on the left side of his body. However, he could walk with a stick, his left hand and leg were disabled. When he went, people came to help him, and he would be irritable. Half time, it was because people did not know which hand would have to be held.

“So, coming from terrible freedom and then accepting it as a way of life … I was extremely sensitive to the fact that it was a huge transition for him,” Rocky and Queen Keem Prem Kahni actor said.
