The Red Laurie Film Festival is back with its second edition. This year, the festival spreads beyond Mumbai and will host another version in Hyderabad. In other films, the festival will showcase globally celebrated films: Emilia Perez, The Girl with the Needle, and Quir- each offered a compelling exploration of identity, emotion and change.

The main attraction of this version is Emilia Perez of Jacques Audiards, which has made history with 13 Academy Award Nomination-which is the highest for a non-English language film. The Spanish-language music mixes crime and drama after a Mexican drug cartel leader’s extraordinary journey. A powerhouse cast, including Zo Saladana, Selena Gomez, Carla Sofa Gask, and Adriana Paz, the film has taken the award season from the storm. In particular, GASCβN became the first transgender woman to be nominated to the Oscar for acting, marking a watershed moment for inclusion in Hollywood. The film first dazzled the audience in Cannes, won the Jury Award and a joint best actress award for her women’s lead.

Another-watch the girl with the needle, a harassment drama drama that has earned the Academy Award nomination for the Best Feature Film. Its entertaining story and powerful performance have strengthened their place as one of the standout films of the year.

Adding to the lineup is the Quir of Luka Guadagnino, starring Daniel Craig, nominated for the best performance by a male actor in Golden Globes. This developed historical drama, William S, established in the 1940s Mexico City. Buroz’s novel brings to life with the intensity of Guadagnino’s signature.

With over 120 films, the Red Lauries Film Festival is cuisted by Bookmisho. It will take place in March.
