Orland described his journey as more “exciting” than “scary.” He added, “I was more surprised by the mental aspect of it, like the lack of sleep and the lack of calories. There’s a lot going on in your mind… It was very challenging to be in that mental state for a while.”
The film’s director, Sean Ellis, spoke candidly about Orlando’s diet and transformation. As the film follows a boxer’s life on an often harrowing journey, Orlando was gaining weight during production. Sean told Orlando, “Basically your brain is starved of calories.” He also said, “It was going to be impossible for him to work while dieting. So, he came to us in his lightest form and then started eating. This meant we had to shoot the film with the beginning of the film at the end first and the end at the beginning. For 25 days we were shooting, he was gaining calories and then it was edited in reverse.”
