A Chennai-based software professional’s decision to walk away from a well-paid corporate role has sparked debate online after he opened up about feeling exhausted by years of meetings, coding cycles and regular deadlines. Vanathi S, who worked at Oracle for eight years, recently shared how leaving her Rs 30 lakh per annum job to pursue full-time content creation turned out to be one of the most fulfilling choices of her life.

Vanathi has spent over a decade in the tech industry, balancing a 9 to 5 developer role with building a social media presence. Over time, the constant pressure to meet deadlines and grow within the corporate structure began to take its toll. Speaking about his journey, he said that he did everything that was expected of him, completing his education, securing a stable job, getting married, supporting his parents, saving money and even building a house. Yet, despite checking all the boxes, she felt disconnected from her sense of happiness.

His LinkedIn profile shows that his last role at Oracle was as a key member of the technical staff, a senior position that many aspire to reach. However, the excitement of climbing the corporate ladder gradually faded for him. Vanathi explained that repeating the same work patterns, such as back-to-back meetings, sprint after sprint, and writing the same lines of code began to feel like an endless loop. Juggling two lives simultaneously, weekdays filled with office work and weekends spent travelling, tracking, filming and editing content left him mentally and physically exhausted. He also noted that this constant running around has started taking a toll on his health.

When he finally decided to resign last year, emotions were mixed. She described an unexpected feeling of relief and fear as well as peace at the same time. Leaving a stable, high-paying job wasn’t easy, but she realized it was necessary to reclaim her energy and focus on what really excited her.

Today, Vanathi is a full-time travel content creator with over 1.6 lakh followers on Instagram. Although she admits that the future seems uncertain, she is still clear about her priorities. They believe that jobs and titles can be recreated later, but the time, enthusiasm and freedom to explore the world cannot be regained once lost.
