Oppo’s Reno flagships for 2025 are coming with some big promises. The company has launched two smartphones in the Reno 13 series: Reno 13 and Reno 13 Pro. Oppo has sent us the Pro variant for review, which we have been using for a few days. While we’re still testing the device for our final verdict, even in this short time, there’s already a lot to talk about the Oppo Reno 13 Pro. In this short time, we’ve enjoyed almost every aspect of the phone – it has a big and bright display, its design is different from most of its competitors, it has a battery that can actually last, among other things. However, our focus here is really on its camera and AI features.
It may be a little early to say, as we’re still in the process of putting the device through its paces, but our first impressions of the device are that with the Reno 13 Pro, Oppo is trying to bring you smart Is. Find the X Series on a budget.
For a smartphone priced under Rs 50,000, the Oppo Reno 13 Pro’s camera not only impresses with a strong set of lenses but also has excellent AI integration that makes it remarkably easy to capture great photos. We traveled with Oppo to Thailand, where we tested the phone’s cameras, and tried out its AI features. In the short time we used it, we captured many daylight, macro and night shots – and rarely got a bad photo.
What stands out most is the ease of taking quality photos. While all cameras can deliver both good and bad shots depending on factors like lighting, camera setup and the skill of the photographer, Oppo has significantly reduced the margin of error with its solid AI software. The AI in the Reno 13 Pro’s cameras is able to analyze your surroundings, adjust to lighting conditions and adapt to your subject, ensuring consistently great results. For scenarios where automatic AI adjustments fall short, a variety of AI tools exist on phones.
We also tested many of these tools with the Oppo Reno 12 Pro. Although we didn’t see any dramatic improvements in most of the tools, features like AI Shadow Remover and AI Clean Up were quite useful. We plan to test these AI tools further for our detailed review.
Apart from its camera and AI capabilities, the battery performance of the Reno 13 Pro is equally impressive. While we still plan to run benchmarks for extensive testing, our initial experience suggests that the phone’s battery performs quite well. During our trip to Thailand that we mentioned, we were out for the whole day, starting around 9 am and returning to our hotel by 8 pm. Throughout the day, we used the phone’s camera extensively, turned it on as a hotspot and actively used WhatsApp and social media apps. Despite this heavy usage, the phone did not need to be charged until the next day, which is a promising sign of its battery capacity.
That said, a smartphone isn’t just about its individual features – it’s difficult to recommend a device unless it offers a good experience. That’s what we aim to evaluate in our Oppo Reno 13 Pro review, which we’ll share next week. There are still many aspects of the phone to be tested, including its overall performance, gaming capabilities, battery endurance, and camera quality in challenging lighting conditions. Most importantly, we’ll assess how seamlessly these features work together and whether the phone justifies its price tag. Stay tuned for our in-depth review of the Oppo Reno 13 Pro 5G.
