Brain rot, dumcrolling, digital dementia, internet-induced ADHD, Phantom Vibration Syndrome-these are some of the buzzwords that often throw on the fact that technology is affecting everyone’s mental good.

The position of emotional well -being reports 2024 reveals many emotional good issues affecting Indians and the necessary efforts to deal with them. The conclusions are based on over 83,000 counseling sessions, 12,000 screening and 42,000 assessment.

Digital life imbalance

Only 3 out of 100 persons have a healthy digital-life balance. 50% of the individuals fell into the ‘poor’ category, who were struggling to disconnect with their equipment, while another 10% had a ‘insufficient’ digital life balance.

Increase in mental health awareness

One of the standout findings is an increase of 15% in mental health consultations. The report states that anxiety, depression and workplace stress are the main reasons that people continue to take professional help.

Surprisingly (a pleasant one), 23% of employees who are seeking support for work related issues, struggling with difficult workplace relationships. It emphasizes the need for healthy communication and psychologically safe workplaces.

More men seeking counseling

Traditionally, women are more open to seek medical and emotional support. When it comes to men, they shy away from asking for help because the most confidence is that it is “not very masculine”, experts say. However, the latest trends suggest that men taking advantage of counseling have increased by 7%. This indicates a positive and too much change.

70% of financial consultations were taken by men, while women participated in 60% relationship consulting sessions.

Mental health issues are more common among youth

Mental health concerns are affecting younger groups with anxiety and depression among people under 30 years of age.

The survey found that stresses such as job transition and relationship management contribute to more anxiety and depression levels, with 92% of individuals show symptoms of anxiety with persons under 25 and show 91% of depression symptoms. .

The risk of suicide is increasing

While there are some positives in the report, it may not be a pleasant discovery. According to the survey, cases of risk of suicides have increased by 22% increase and crisis cases have increased by 17% as compared to last year (2023).

About half of those seeking counseling faced serious emotional challenges. The report emphasizes the immediate requirement of accessible, high quality mental health resources and active intervention.

The report, the State of Emotional Welling Report 2024, shows a clear picture – while mental health awareness is increasing, hence there are challenges. Now, it rests on us how we deal with it.
