OnePlus Watch 2R review: One of the best but not for everyone
The OnePlus Watch 2R looks good and works well, but its dial size makes it a selective choice. Read India Today Tech’s detailed review.

OnePlus Watch 2R Review 8/10
Pros
battery life
build quality
Price determination
Step count accuracy
Shortcoming
Dial size
No rotating crown
I have been testing the OnePlus Watch 2R alongside the OnePlus Nord 4 5G for the past few days. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. This watch allows you to do a lot, especially if you workout daily and need to track your daily vitals and calorie expenditure, the OnePlus Watch 2R is a great option. The smartwatch is also priced at Rs 17,999 which is pretty decent. The only problem I have with the watch is its dial size. The Watch 2R comes in a single 46mm size, which makes it difficult for a lot of people. For anyone who prefers a smaller dial, or someone like me who has smaller wrists, 46mm is too big. And not having the option of a smaller variant is a bit disappointing. But for those who think size doesn’t matter, India Today Tech has a detailed review.
OnePlus Watch 2R: Look and feel
I am using the Gunmetal Grey variant of the Watch 2R, which I personally find to be a better looking variant. But this is purely my personal opinion as I have seen people also liking the Forest Green variant, which has a silver body and green strap. I think the Grey variant looks good with whatever you wear.

The watch has a silicone strap and a stainless steel buckle. Although it has warnings to keep it dry to avoid allergies, I have been playing around with those warnings and have worn the watch during workouts and then for the rest of the day at the office. I have also been traveling with the watch and have slept with the watch overnight, and I have had no issues. The strap is extremely comfortable, and the silicone adds a little elasticity to it, which keeps the watch fitting nicely on your wrist.
The watch looks quite good and premium. Its design is quite similar to the OnePlus Watch 2. It looks like a high-end watch. But the watch is also quite heavy. Although it is not as heavy as the OnePlus Watch 2. In my hands, it still looks like a borrowed watch, especially because of its size.
The Watch 2R has two buttons on the right side, one of which is for opening the App Center, going back to the home screen, the other can be mapped to different functions. By default, it is mapped to the Workout app which works best for me. You can simply tap the button to open the app and select a workout. I noticed that the app is usually not able to identify whether you are exercising or not, so if you are particular about recording your workouts, you have to be careful about selecting the workout mode yourself. It is a good thing that both these buttons are at a slight angle so that you don’t accidentally press any button when you bend your wrist – a problem that happens quite often with Apple Watch.
The one thing I missed in the device was the rotating crown. Perhaps because it’s a very important part of navigating the Apple Watch, and it’s what I’m used to, the lack of a functional rotating crown felt like a letdown in the user experience.

OnePlus Watch 2R: Performance
The OnePlus Watch 2R uses WearOS. It integrates seamlessly with Google’s suite of services, including Google Calendar, Google Fit, Google Wallet, Maps, and more. For those who primarily use Android and specifically OnePlus devices, it will be a relief that they don’t have to manually connect to any of these services. One of the big advantages of having WearOS is that you have the app store on the phone, so you don’t have to go through the hassle of downloading apps on your phone first and then linking the app to your watch. You can simply download the app on your watch and get to work.
The fitness tracking data appears to be reliable, connecting seamlessly with your phone and maintaining a stable connection. The Wear OS platform allows for a wide range of apps to be installed, catering to a variety of needs. I wore the watch throughout the day to track my steps and calorie expenditure during my workouts and throughout the day. The readings seemed to be on par with my Apple Watch, which I usually use.
The watch connects to your smartphone via the OHealth app, though iPhone users are left out as there’s no iOS version available. Inside the app, you can review your fitness data, personalize your watchface and settings, and begin workout tracking. While the app is somewhat basic, I consider this a positive – it keeps things straightforward. For more advanced features, you can use the app directly.
The watch also monitors your sleep patterns, providing detailed metrics such as sleep phase breakdowns, heart rate changes, and breathing patterns. Although I didn’t particularly like wearing the watch to bed as it’s a bit bulky, I did so for testing. I also wore the watch during an 11-hour flight and I managed to gather some data. Not surprisingly, the watch confirmed that I didn’t get much sleep during the flight.

OnePlus Watch 2R: Battery
I was using the watch with the always-on display feature, and still I achieved three days of battery life. And if you turn on the power saving mode, the watch can easily last a week. I didn’t get a chance to test it for a longer period of time, but it can last at least a week on power saving mode. OnePlus says it can last up to 12 days at a stretch with power saving mode on, and I can believe it. But the good thing is that turning on power saver mode doesn’t render your watch useless, you can still access most of the essential apps, including sleep tracking, heart rate tracking, fitness tracking, etc.
The OnePlus Watch 2R also supports 7.5W SuperVOOC fast charging, which is a boon. On those nights when you forget to charge your watch, fast charging is a great feature, allowing you to quickly charge your watch before heading to the gym or work. It takes about an hour to charge 100 percent, but even a 15-minute charge gives you enough to power the watch for a few hours.
Is the Watch 2R worth buying?
Considering its price of Rs 17,999, the OnePlus Watch 2R can be a great buy. I think it is one of the best Android smartwatches out there. The only drawback of the Watch 2R is its bulky body and the only 46mm size variant. This will deter a lot of people from buying it as it will be too big for most people. But if you don’t mind a bigger size watch, the Watch 2R is a great option.
