OnePlus is preparing to expand its tablet lineup in India, offering a new budget called OnePlus Pad Light. According to the latest leaks, this new device may be the successor of OnePlus Pad Go, which was launched in 2023. So far, OnePlus has focused on the premium tablet under the OnePlus pad series, while the more inexpensive pads remain the only budget model of the GO company. Now, it seems that OnePlus is ready to refresh this category with a new name and possibly better features.
OnePlus Pad Light: Why is OnePlus name changing?
Instead of launching OnePlus Pad Go 2 version, OnePlus is turning its entry-level tablet into a pad light. This change can be a part of the brand strategy to make the lineup easier to understand. The “light” tag clearly suggests more economical and basic versions of the main pad series, which can help attract more budget-conscious buyers. While the company has not officially confirmed this yet, the design details and specifications of the upcoming OnePlus Tablet have surfaced online through a report by 91Mobiles and Tipster Steve Hemstofer (ONLEAKS).
OnePlus Pad Light: Leak Design, Spex
The report suggests that the OnePlus Pad Light will borrow its design from the OnePlus Pad Go instead of the higher premium pad 3. It has a similar form factor and shape feature, which indicates the onePlus to maintain the basics when creating some tweaks under the hood. Pad lights are said to measure 254.9 x 166.5 x 7.4 mm and weigh about 539 grams, almost similar to pads. So, users can expect an familiar design and handling experience.
In terms of the display, the pad light may come with a 11 -inch LCD panel with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 90Hz. This pad is slightly smaller than the 11.35 inch screen offered on Go, and the resolution is also slightly lower. Nevertheless, for basic browsing, video streaming and light work, it is expected to work without any major issue.
Under the hood, the pad light is operated by the MediaTek Helio G100 chipset. This chip is a slight upgradation on Helio G99 that operated Pad Go. Both processors are built on a 6Nm process and include the same core setup, two cortex-A76 performance core 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 proficiency core 2.0GHz. Helio G100 is better on paper as it has a 200 -megapixel high camera resolution support. However, since both are budget tablets with similar chipsets, high camera resolution support on pad light will not make much difference in the use of the real world. Performance is expected to be the same. If the pad sees the price cut after the launch of Go launch, it can offer a better value, until the OnePlus closes it. However, as the company has not yet confirmed any details, it is best to take the leak with a pinch of salt.
The upcoming OnePlus pad light is expected to ship with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, although there may be other variants with less or less memory. There is no mention of whether the storage will expandable, but given that the pad -backed microSD card is possible, it is possible that there will be light.
An area where pad light can have a clear benefit is a battery life. The device is asked to include a large 9,340mAh battery, which is a noticeable increase from the 8,000mAh unit of Pad Go. It should be used for a long time at single fee compared to its predecessor.
However, the camera can see a downgrade. The leak suggests that the pad light will have a 5-megapixel sensor facility on both front and back, compared to the 8-megapixel cameras of the pad Go. For most users, however, this will not be a major drawback as tablet cameras are rarely used for high quality photography.
OnePlus Pad Lite: Expected Price in India
The tablet is expected to be available in Aero Blue and come up with a folio cover in the box. There is no word yet on the date or price of the exact launch, but the price of pad light can be less than Rs 20,000 in India. For reference, OnePlus Pad Go was launched for Rs 19,999. Since the light version shares many of the same components and does not bring major performance upgrade, the onePlus is likely to keep pricing in the same range.
