OnePlus Open, the company’s first foldable smartphone, launched in 2024 and was a huge success. Now, all eyes are on the company’s second-generation foldable phone, the OnePlus Open 2. There have been rumors for some time that OpenGL 2 will launch by the first quarter of 2025. However, the launch timeline has been revised. The latest reports suggest that the OnePlus Open 2 will now only launch in the second half of 2025. Of course, an early release would have been great, but OnePlus has traditionally done its big launches in August, and that’s probably the timeframe. Stay tuned in 2025.
As for what to expect from the OnePlus Open 2, the foldable is expected to be a rebranded Oppo Find N5. Now, to put things in perspective, the Find N5 will apparently be launched before the OnePlus Open 2. But we don’t know when the Find N5 will launch. However, Zhou Yibao, Product Manager of Oppo, confirmed in a social media conversation with a user that it will launch before the Find X8 Ultra. There is no official launch date for the latter, but it is rumored to be released in the first quarter of 2025. Some reports also suggest that the Oppo Find N5 may be released in February next year.
Many leaks have also surfaced about Oppo Find N5 aka OnePlus Open 2. Reports so far suggest that the OnePlus Open 2 is expected to feature the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Which could be a big jump over the OnePlus Open, which sports a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.
The OnePlus Open 2 is also rumored to have a foldable display with 2K+ resolution. The foldable phone is believed to come with a 50-megapixel triple-lens setup, which will likely include a circular periscope telephoto lens, based on the 3x optical zoom offered by its forerunner. The Open 2 may also support 3-stage wireless charging, complementing its larger form factors. In terms of design, the foldable phone may adopt a slim, lightweight frame with the option of plain leather and glass materials for a sophisticated aesthetic.
