To solve a recurring issue with AMOLED screens, OnePlus has announced a new initiative offering free screen replacements for select phone models. The green line issue, a hardware problem often mistaken for a software update, has plagued various smartphone brands. Unlike other companies, OnePlus is going ahead with a preemptive display replacement program as part of its Red Cable Club loyalty initiative to help them solve this problem.
An X (formerly Twitter) user named StarCommander spotted this offer in the Red Cable Club section of OnePlus phones. It shows that OnePlus is offering free screen upgrades to users who are facing some display-related issues. The program specifically targets OnePlus 8 Pro, OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 9R users. The eligible device should be free from any kind of damage and unauthorized repairs. People in India can find this offer in the Red Cable Club section in the Settings section of their OnePlus phones.
OnePlus told Android Authority that the initiative involves a three-tier service. It includes “comprehensive diagnostics, including a thorough assessment of screen performance and reliability.”
The second is screen upgrades and replacements, where eligible users will get a “new, enhanced display panel” that is “designed to improve performance with vibrant colors and enhanced durability.” The company said these screens are “specifically engineered to perform well in high humidity and high-temperature environments.”
The third is the “Deep Cleaning Service”, where OnePlus offers a “free, deep cleaning of the device”.
OnePlus, along with its suppliers, has developed new screen technology for these older devices that are no longer sold. These new screens promise better resilience to humidity and other environmental conditions, which the company says will give users a longer life and a better experience.
“Users can visit our service centres to check if their device is at risk. Human-caused damaged devices, such as from falling or liquid ingress, are not eligible for this free upgrade and must be repaired through our standard after-sales service,” the company said.
