As the popularity of foldable smartphones grows, OnePlus is all set to expand its lineup with a new variant. The company has announced the launch of the OnePlus Open Apex Edition in an attractive Crimson Shadow colour. In a recent blog post, OnePlus revealed that this attractive foldable phone will be launched on August 7. This new edition is expected to grab attention and strengthen OnePlus’ position in the competitive foldable market.

According to the company blog, the OnePlus Open Apex Edition comes with improved storage, advanced AI image editing, and new security features aimed at delivering a better user experience in line with OnePlus’ ‘Never Settle’ philosophy.

The Apex Edition is inspired by the iconic Hasselblad 503CW 60 Years Victor Red Edition. It features a premium vegan leather back with a diamond-like pattern and vibrant orange accents on the alert slider, making it a timeless and stunning design. No information has been given about the price of the smartphone.

OnePlus Open: Specifications

The OnePlus Open is both lightweight and compact. The height of the device is 153.4 mm, while the width expands to 143.1 mm when opened and shrinks to 73.3 mm when folded. The thickness varies slightly depending on the colour choice. The Emerald Dusk variant is 5.8 mm thick when opened and 11.7 mm thick when folded, while the Voyager Black variant is 5.9 mm and 11.9 mm thick respectively.

Talking about the weight, the Voyager Black weighs around 239 grams, and the Emerald Dusk weighs around 245 grams. The Flexion Hinge technology is an integral part of the phone’s lightweight, compact, and durable design.

The device features a 7.82-inch Flexi-Fluid AMOLED main display with a maximum brightness of up to 2800 nits. The 6.31-inch cover display features 2K resolution and 431 ppi. Both screens offer a 120Hz refresh rate.

For photography enthusiasts, the OnePlus Open sports a 48-megapixel primary camera with Sony’s LYT-T808 “pixel stacked” CMOS sensor and optical image stabilisation (OIS). This is accompanied by a 64-megapixel telephoto camera and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera, which is capable of recording 4K videos at 60 FPS. The front camera setup includes a 20-megapixel primary camera and a 32-megapixel secondary camera.

The OnePlus Open runs on the new OxygenOS 13.2 based on Android 13 and has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. It is designed to receive major Android updates for four years and security updates for five years, ensuring long-term software support.

The phone packs a 4,805mAh battery and supports 67W fast charging. OnePlus claims that the battery can charge from 1% to 100% in about 42 minutes, offering more than a day of usage on a single charge. The retail package also includes a charger, making it a comprehensive offering for users.
With its impressive specifications and thoughtful design, OnePlus has emerged as a significant entrant in the open foldable smartphone market.
