The company has quietly released its first teaser for the phone, hinting that the arrival isn’t far off. Interestingly, the device will first launch in China under the OnePlus Ace 6T name before heading to global markets, similar to the strategy the brand adopted with the OnePlus 15. And from early indications, it’s clear that OnePlus is designing a performance-heavy phone that relies strongly on gaming and speed. But only time will tell whether this is true or not. The good thing is that the brand has already confirmed some features and the rumor mill has given a rough idea of its possible specifications, leaving little to be desired. The discussion is mostly about the chipset. OnePlus China President Li Jie has already revealed that the Ace 6T will be the world’s first smartphone to run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. This is the non-Elite version of Qualcomm’s next flagship chip and is reportedly co-developed with OnePlus. What stands out is the claim that the chip integrates a new gaming kernel that is specifically designed to help the phone maintain 165Hz gameplay without stutters. OnePlus is also said to have achieved 165Hz optimization for at least one major mobile title, possibly Genshin Impact, which gives you an idea of what kind of audience the company is targeting.
The teaser also shows what the phone may look like. Like its siblings, the 15R is expected to feature the circular-shaped camera island that OnePlus has made its signature design element this year. We have seen the same on the OnePlus 13s and OnePlus 15. On the front, the display will feature a 165Hz refresh rate, which has already been confirmed in an official post. Although OnePlus has not yet revealed detailed battery numbers, the brand has been pushing the “high performance with long battery life” narrative in most of its promotions.
However, leaks from China fill this gap. The Ace 6T, which will be the template for the India-bound 15R, is rumored to have a 6.7-inch OLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and the same 165Hz refresh rate mentioned in the teaser. Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 could be paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x Ultra RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage, giving the phone flagship-level memory options. The chipset itself is believed to use Orion CPU cores on a 3nm TSMC process, arranged in a 2+6 cluster, and an Adreno 840 GPU for demanding graphics.
Battery is another topic of discussion. The Ace 6T is said to have an 8,000mAh battery with 100W fast charging, which if remains unchanged for the 15R, will easily make it one of the largest batteries on any OnePlus phone. This may also explain OnePlus’ strong emphasis on “beyond expected” battery endurance. The software side will likely be handled by ColorOS 16 in China, but the Indian models should get OxygenOS based on Android 16.
On the camera front, the leak suggests a 50-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual rear setup and a 32-megapixel selfie camera, making it clear that OnePlus is positioning this phone as a performance-first device rather than a camera-heavy flagship. Other expected hardware features include a metal middle frame, ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, dual speakers, an X-axis linear motor, and NFC support. Color options may include Electric Purple, Flash Black, and Shadow Green, with a special Genshin Impact edition for China also in the pipeline.
The Ace 6T has already gone up for pre-registration on major Chinese platforms like JD, Tmall, and Oppo Store, indicating that an official launch there may not be too far away. Given the brand’s pattern of rapidly introducing its R-series phones in key markets, India should soon follow suit.
OnePlus 15R: Expected India price
Now, the big question: price. The OnePlus 12R launches in India for Rs 39,999, and the 13R launches for Rs 42,999. With OnePlus increasing the price by about Rs 3,000 every year and shifting to a much faster chipset on the 15R, a price jump seems almost certain. Although nothing is official yet, the starting price is expected to be less than Rs 45,000. The chances of the 15R coming at a lower price are slim, especially when OnePlus hasn’t made any price cuts in any of its recent launches and even the OnePlus 15 came at a slightly higher price in India despite being cheaper in China.
