OnePlus is all set to launch its much-awaited OnePlus 13 and OnePlus 13R on January 7. Just a day before the big event, the company has revealed some details about the features and upgrades of these new devices. From design changes to expected prices, here’s everything we know so far about the OnePlus 13 series.
The base variant of the OnePlus 13 is expected to be priced under Rs 70,000, while the OnePlus 13R is likely to launch under Rs 50,000 overall. The price increase of the OnePlus 13 is reportedly due to the higher price of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, but we will have to wait for the official announcement to confirm the exact figures.
When it comes to design, both the OnePlus 13 and 13R are moving away from the curved displays of their predecessors and adopting flat edges, giving them a fresh look. The familiar circular camera module remains, but the design element that used to connect the camera bump to the phone’s frame is no longer there. This gives the phone a cleaner and more minimalistic look. Another interesting change is that the OnePlus 13 will now come in two finishes – vegan leather and glass. Both versions will offer impressive IP68 and IP69 ratings, ensuring dust and water resistance. However, the more affordable OnePlus 13R won’t include a vegan leather finish or the same level of water resistance.
In terms of specifications, both phones will pack a massive 6,000mAh battery, which will promise long-lasting performance, and they will support fast charging. The main difference between the two models is in the chipset. The OnePlus 13 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest and greatest – the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 13R will be powered by the previous generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is also a strong contender in its own right. Both devices will run OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15 right out of the box. Software support is another area where the two phones may differ. The OnePlus 13 is expected to get 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security patches, while the OnePlus 13R may get 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches.
The camera department also promises some upgrades. The OnePlus 13 is said to feature a 50-megapixel Sony LYT-808 primary sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. For the OnePlus 13R, rumors suggest a triple-camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary lens, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens, and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor. If true, this would be the first time an R-series device will include a telephoto lens.
