Singer-composer AR Rahman recently sang his prestigious song ‘Wande Mataram’ during a live concert. He dedicated the song to the crowd that made his singing skills happy.
In the video, between Cheers and CT, Rahman can be seen congratulating the crowd by saying “Happy Independence Day”. He then sings ‘Wande Matram’ with his crew because everyone sings with him. While sharing the video on his Instagram handle, he wrote, “Happy Independence Day (SIC).”

‘Wande Mataram’ is a 1997 studio album by Rahman under Sony’s music label Columbia Records and SME Records. This is the largest selling non-film album of Sony Music India so far. The album released on August 12, 1997 reminded of the 50th anniversary of India’s independence.
‘Vande Matram’ was released in 28 countries around the world. Rahman performed live on 14 August 1997 at Vijay Chowk in New Delhi on 14 August 1997 on the eve of Golden Jubilee of India’s independence. The then Prime Minister of India, Indra Kumar Gujral was also one of the attendees.
On the work front, Rahman recently composed music for director Hansal Mehta’s upcoming series ‘Gandhi’. The film was held at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) from September 4 to 14, 2025.
Rahman has also collaborated with Nitesh Tiwari’s epic ‘Ramayana’ with the Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer. A month ago, he shared a picture of himself with Zimmer and captioned it, “@hanszimmer with #Ramayanamovie (SIC).”
Rahman is known for singing in his compositions and many patriotic films and period drama. His famous works include ‘Lagaan’ (2001), ‘The Legend of Bhagat Singh’ (2002), ‘Swedes’ (2004), ‘Rang de Basanti’ (2006) and ‘Chhawa’ (2025).
Rahman was also awarded the highest national honor in 2000 – Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan in 2010.
