Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, shared the story of an iconic classic film that traumatized her emotionally during her childhood. The Nosferatu star has delved into the horror genre himself as he discussed watching his father Johnny’s Gothic fantasy film at a young age.
In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the 25-year-old actress explained how Tim Burton’s goth classic, Edward Scissorhands, made her uncomfortable as a child, not just by the character’s terrifying appearance but by the encounters she encountered throughout the film. Cruelly.
“Movies are supposed to make you feel something. I was shocked by it,” the Idol star told the outlet.
The disturbing experience of watching her father in the role of Edward aroused very intense emotions as she deeply empathized with the character’s mistreatment. She added, “Not because I thought he was creepy, but because everyone was being so mean to him and I got really upset.”
Depp said, “I remember being scared of it, which is weird because I don’t have many memories from when I was that young.”
He further reflected on his latest film Nosferatu, saying, “It’s a difficult childhood memory. Edward is a good guy and Nosferatu is kind of a bad guy, but there’s a part of me that feels a little sympathy for Nosferatu. I mean, am I sick of feeling like this?”
Lily-Rose Depp said that although she and her father have different acting styles, growing up in a creative environment had a great influence. He admitted that growing up in that environment exposed him to the ins and outs of the film world, which increased his passion for the art.
The Tusk actress said, “We’re very different actors, but of course, you’re a product of your environment, and that’s a world I’ve always been very interested in.”
