No regrets: Jugal Hansraj, typisting and new beginnings on career failures
Jugal Hansraj was praised for his performance in Nadaniyan. In a special interview with us, he shared an insight about Bollywood development, his career struggle and control over the typisting.

Actor Jugal Hansraj, who portrayed Ibrahim Ali Khan’s father in Netflix’s Nadaniyan, received “sweet messages” from the audience for his character.
The actor told India Today Digital, “I am very happy with my character received for Nadanian. Film critic and normal people are sending me sweet messages. I am very grateful for it.”
He said, “A scene of the film came out with Ibrahim and herself very well, and of course, I would like to credits my director for it. He handled the scene well, and so I am happy that the response has been good for my scenes.”
Hansraj’s enthusiasm for Nadaniyan is not only from the response, but also from his experience of working with director Shuna Gautam.
Hansraj said, “I really met Shuna for the first time on the zoom, and she took me through the story. But I loved the character, and I loved the whole family environment that she was making with Ibrahim’s family.”
He also praised Shuna’s broad background in the industry. “She is very experienced. It is her first film as an independent director, but she has been around for a long time. She was an associate director with Raju Hirani and Karan Johar.”
“I have never done a film with religion as an actor – this is my first professional acting assignment with him. This was another attractive feature, and I had a wonderful experience of working on the film.”
The actor, who started as a child artist in the 1980s, has seen significant changes in the industry over the years.

“Since the epidemic, when I have resumed acting, I am really happy with the kind of parts that are coming in my way. They cannot be long, but each role is a unique essence of which I never found before. I will always be shy boy, sing and try to tell the girl that I am really enjoying it, and I shared.”
Hansraj also highlighted the development of professionalism in Bollywood. “I have been given scenes before the shoot, which is very good. We also have readings with the director. The director is accessible to any discussion and any question.”
While the actor admitted that today’s actors prepare a role before playing a role, he recalled that in the past, even the tests are sometimes the morning shooting.
“If there was a look or makeup test, it would be the morning of the shoot. They will try five different looks, and it was that. But now, things are very different. You have been given time, so you can immerse yourself a little more and try to do a better work. I am all for it.”
While reflecting the projection of his career, Hansraj accepted the rigorous classification of actors in the past.
“In those days, everyone was a typist. You were either an action hero or a romantic hero. There was no beach ground. Either you were like Sunil Shetty or Ajay Devgan, or you were like Saif Ali Khan. There were two types inside the romantic heroes – there were two types – mischievous, playful type and shy, reserve.”
Jugal Hansraj signed several films at the beginning of his career, but many never left. Projects were sheltered with Manmohan Desai and Pahalaj Nihalani, and Papa Kehte, despite the success, others did not start.
Despite these failures, Hansraj remained optimistic and has no regrets about his journey.
“I am not from the film industry, so I had no guidance like a parents or uncle in business. My family was very simple, and the world of the film was quite foreign to me. It was challenging to navigate it, and I want me to be a little about it. Rather, see it positively, and people know who I am.”
Jugal Hansraj’s pipeline has two more projects.
