Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman revealed her favourite Hayao Miyazaki films, sending the internet into a tizzy. Miyazaki received the Ramon Magsaysay Award.

Nirmala Sitharaman is a fan of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki. The Union Finance Minister named ‘My Neighbour Totoro’ and ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’ as her favourite films, while Miyazaki has received the Ramon Magsaysay Award.

Sharing the news on X, Nimala Seetharaman praised Hayao Miyazaki. She wrote, “#StudioGhibli co-founder #HayaoMiyazaki receives the Ramon Magsaysay Award. His masterpieces are “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Kiki’s Delivery Service” – watch them as many times as you want. Anime has a lot to offer to adults and Miyazaki delivers them like a wizard.”

Studio Ghibli was founded in 1985 by acclaimed Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki along with Isao Takahata and Toshio Suzuki. Miyazaki came out of retirement to create ‘The Boy and the Heron’, a touching story based on World War II, which won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film in 2024. The film follows the journey of a 12-year-old boy coping with the tragic death of his mother and his new life with his father and stepmother. A mysterious grey heron guides him towards understanding his grief.
