Nikon today announced its first cinema camera, Nikon ZR. Built in collaboration with The Red, which was acquired last year, ZR brings the codec and color science of the Red to the Nikon Z series.
Nikon ZR uses the same 24.5MP full-frame sensor and expands 7 image processors from the company’s Z Mount Z6iii. This camera can do up to 6K/60p recording in the new 12-bit R3D NE Raw Codec received from red cameras. The support for Log3G10 and Redwidegamutrgb Gamut, which should ensure stability with other redcode raw cameras for color matching. Two Aadhaar ISO sensitivity are available: ISO 800 and ISO 6400. The company claims that the camera is capable of 15+ stops of the dynamic range.
With R3D Ne Raw, Nikon can record Nikon Zr Nikon’s N-Rw as well as Apple’s Prres Raw. You can preview Luts from within the camera so that you can see how your footage will come out. There is also a cinematic video mode, which automatically sets the camera on a red cinematic look with a color grade, 180-degree shutter angle, and the 24P frame rate is locked in a non-r-row format, which wants red camera without working.
Nikon ZR supports 32-bit float audio recording using underlying and external microphones. The external microphone can be added via a hotsho or a 3.5 mm microphone jack. The camera supports Nokia’s Ozo Audio technology, which allows the user to choose from five polar pickup points, including front (super directive), front (all directions), rear and stereo (Beenyur).
The Nikon ZR has a 4-inch performance with full DCI-P3 coverage and 1000 nits peak shine. Performance is also completely artistic.
In terms of connectivity, you also get a headphone jack with the above microphone. However, there are no XLR inputs and the only video is through a micro HDMI connector that you will expect on a cinema camera instead of a full -sized HDMI. Storage comes as a CFEXPRESS and, strangely, a microSD slot. There is also a USB 3.2 Type-C connector with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, but there is no Ethernet.
Other features include 7.5 stops, people, and automatic rotation for autofocus, magnesium alloy chassis, weather sealing, front tally lights and vertical videos to detect the underlying image stabilization. The camera does not have a cooling fan and instead uses the entire body to spread the heat.
Nikon ZR will be available for an initial price of $ 2200 in October. Additional kits will be available with separate bundle lenses.
