Hollywood star and Australian actress Nicole Kidman was unable to accept the Venice Festival Award, the Volpi Cup, in person after hearing the news of her mother’s death. The actress later shared a statement in which she said she was deeply saddened and was dedicating her win to her late mother. Nicole won the award for her performance in Babygirl.
Nicole’s statement was read at the festival by director Helena Reijn.
Nicole gave her full statement, saying, “Today I arrived in Venice and learned that my brave and beautiful mother, Janelle Anne Kidman, has passed away. I am in shock and have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to tell her name to all of you through Helena. The collision of life and art is heartbreaking. My heart is broken.”
Kidman’s mother was a nursing instructor.
