Christina Fulton opens up about her son’s arrest
Christina Fulton, the ex-wife of Hollywood star Nicolas Cage, has come forward and spoken on the arrest of her son, Weston Coppola Cage.
Musician Weston, 33, was arrested on Wednesday, July 10. According to a report by PEOPLE, Weston surrendered but was later released on a $150,000 bond, according to police records.
Fulton released a statement addressing the incident on Thursday, according to the publication. The actress’ statement said she received messages from Weston’s friends on April 28 who were concerned about his mental state and asked her to come for help.
She further added, “When I reached out to support and console him, he was already extremely angry.”
The statement also said that the actress requested police officers to take Weston into custody for a mental health evaluation; however, the police did not cooperate and denied Fulton’s request.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, who spoke to People, the recent arrest was related to an incident that occurred between Weston and his mother on April 28.
The altercation turned from verbal to physical and took place at Christina Fulton’s Los Angeles home. Fulton also requested in her statement that Weston receive immediate mental health help.
What do police say about Weston’s arrest?
The LAPD said the April 28 case was presented to the district attorney’s office in May. The DA then filed two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on June 26 and issued an arrest warrant a few days later.
Police also said they took a battery report from Christina Fulton following the alleged incident.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Weston has been arrested. In 2017, he was arrested in Los Angeles for DUI and a hit-and-run.
According to reports, the musician and actor has struggled with substance abuse in the past.
