Apple is allegedly planning to promote some serious performance for its next generation iPad. According to a new report by macrutters, Apple is working on a compact tablet, citing internal codes which is the name of J510 and J511, which will feature A19 Pro Chip. This is the same chip that is expected to start with the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro model next month.

If the Apple iPad equips the mini with the A19 Pro chip, it will bring a significant upgradation on the current-generation iPad mini, which runs on the A17 Pro chip. This chip made its debut in the iPhone 15 Pro series. Reported leaked codes show that the A19 Pro Base will pack more GPU core than the standard A19 chip planned for the iPhone 17 model.

Apple is also allegedly developing a “Bind” A19 Pro variant with a low GPU core, which is probably aimed at the rumor iPhone 17 Air. The new iPad Mini is asked to adopt a fully equipped A19 Pro, which will allow it to perform better graphics and distribute rapid multitasking abilities.

OLED performance in future iPad mini

Now the processor is not the only major upgrade rumor for the next-gene iPad Mini. The report has long been indicated on Apple working on an OLED iPad mini, which offers deep blacks, better contrast and better color accuracy than the current LED panel.

The A19 Pro-Powered iPad has not yet been confirmed on the release date for the iPad mini or OLED model. According to rumors, Spring 2026 for the Apple OLED version may target the launch, but other sources claim that the switch may not be up to 2027. Till then, iPad Mini is likely to maintain its liquid retina LCD.

Now it leaves us with two possibilities: 2026 iPad mini can launch with the A19 Pro chip and keep the LCD until the OLED refreshes the next year, or Apple can bring both major upgrades together in a release. Apple actually brings to the table, only time will tell.

Meanwhile, the leaked code also allegedly operates Apple’s work on an updated entry-level iPad (Codenamed J581/J582) by the upcoming A18 chip, which can reach at the beginning of the next spring.

Apple finally refreshed iPad Mini in 2024. The current model has an 8.3-inch liquid retina display and runs with a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU and 16-core nerve engine on the A17 Pro chip. It supports both Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C). The iPad Mini for the camera hardware includes a 12-megapixel wide rear camera with smart HDR4 and 4K video recording, as well as a 12-megapixel front camera with the center step.
