Happy New Year 2025! With the celebration of the New Year also comes the promise of a fresh start, especially when it comes to our diet. There are many people who join gyms or start new diet plans in the new year in an attempt to lose weight. One of the most popular New Year’s resolutions is called ‘I will get fit’, but what actually happens is the opposite. Most diets fail and derail our weight loss goals. We suggest making simple, achievable resolutions that you can actually stick to. In the New Year 2025, one should first focus on setting small goals which can be easily achieved in a short time and then make it a regular habit.
Consultant nutritionist Rupali Dutta also agrees, “Remember, the first step is the most important! Set small goals, for example, closing your kitchen by 9 pm or taking a walk every half hour after sitting. She adds that It is important to simply kickstart the habit and it will undoubtedly become part of your diet regime “It takes us 21 days to change a habit and if we follow it for three months it becomes our lifestyle. Take your time, it’s more important to learn what you need to change and start over,” she said.

New Year 2025: Here are 6 diet resolutions you can actually stick to:

1. Eat a fruit every day:

No, we’re not saying you should make yourself a fruit plate. The simple act of eating a whole fruit every day will definitely help you a lot in your diet plan. Fresh fruits provide many health benefits for your body. Eat it raw for best benefits. Once this becomes a habit, you can increase the amount depending on your other meals.

2. Use small plates to eat:

Sometimes, we pile more food on our plates than required. Large plates give us the illusion that we still have some more space, while our stomach is already stretched to full capacity. Rupali Dutta says, “Even the healthiest food is good as long as it is eaten in the quantity as per the body’s need, excess never means more goodness.” The simple act of using a smaller plate will prove helpful to your diet and weight loss goals.

3. Try to skip processed food every other day:

If we have heard a recommendation like, ‘Avoid processed food completely’ – we may follow it for two-three days or sometimes even weeks. But then suddenly, our craving for junk food comes back and we are filled with guilt. Experts suggest that you can try giving up processed food every other day initially and then see the difference. Health coach Shilpa Arora says, “Avoid factory-made food and embrace what nature has created.” Rupali Dutta says, “Know how much you need and then stick to it. If you understand this, even the occasional samosa or burger won’t distract you from your health goals.”

4. Switch to Herbal Tea:

The benefits of herbal tea in detoxifying the system have been proven time and again by various researchers. If you can replace your cup of masala chai or coffee with green tea or any other herbal tea of your choice, trust us, your body will thank you! We are not asking yourself to give it up completely, but to include herbal tea in your daily diet at least every other day

5. Make one meal daily containing protein:

In the pursuit of eating healthy, we often reduce calories but forget to take good nutrition in return. Instead of saying you’ll eat fewer calories or eliminate carbs from your diet altogether, try making at least one meal a day protein-rich. You can choose between vegetarian or non-vegetarian protein sources. This will provide a simple yet effective means of cutting calories, while also keeping you full for longer periods of time and contributing to your weight loss goals.

6. Walk for 15 minutes every day:

Apart from changes in diet, it is also important to incorporate exercise to ensure that you lose those extra kilos. Try and walk for 15 minutes every day so that it becomes a consistent habit in your daily routine. Once you get used to it, you can start taking longer walks and build up from there. “Complete 10,000 steps daily and take sunlight every morning for best results,” suggests Shilpa Arora.

So, try these simple and achievable New Year’s resolutions and let us know your experience in the comments below. We wish all our readers a very happy New Year. May 2025 be your best year ever!
