Since 2023, the Qualcomm Handheld Gaming is creating Snapdragon chips for the purpose of the console. These are different from smartphones/tablets chips and are sold under Snapdragon G brand. Today, the company refreshes the entire lineup with major reforms.
Snapdragon is the first G-Series chip to support Lumen of G3 Gen 3 3. Lumen is a dynamic global light and reflection system. You can find more details here and in this video. Additionally, there is hardware acceleration for ray tracing, which is not available on G2 and G1.
At the top of the new features, General 3 chip also brings up performance upgrade. The 8-core CPU (1x Prime, 5X display and 2x efficiency) is 30% faster than the G3 Gen 2 CPU. The new Adreno A32 GPU is 28% fast.
The Snapdragon G2 G2 G2 CPU performance is a massive upgradation on its predecessor with 2.3x boosts and 3.8x growth in GPU capabilities. The CPU has a separate mixture of core (1+4+3 instead of 1+5+2), but Qualcomm does not give details about what the core is to be used (Cryo or Oyon?).
The Adreno A22 GPU Snapdragon game supports super resolution (apaskling) and adreno frame motion engine 2.0 (frame genes), which are also available on A32, but there is no ray tracing hardware here. Both G3 and G2 can run QHD+ display up to 144Hz.
On the connectivity side, the new G3 and G2 chips include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3, Plus alternative 5G (Sub-6GHz and MMWAVE) support.
Snapdragon G1 General 2 is a cheap option and is largely for cloud gaming. It supports 1080p+ display up to 120Hz with Wi-Fi 5 (AC) and Bluetooth 5.1. A 5G option is also available.
The new CPU (2+6) lacks a major core, but it is still 80% faster than its predecessor. The Adreno A12 provides a greater 25% improvement in performance. Here attention was on efficiency rather than performing.
“Starting this quarter,” will be handheld gaming devices from Ayeneo, Vanaxugar, retroid pocket and others, which will feature new Snapdragon G chips. We are not sure why Qualcomm was not more specific with dates, Q1 only has a few weeks left.
