After years of rumors and speculation that Princess Diana’s riding instructor James Hewitt, not King Charles, is Prince Harry’s biological father, a new memoir has shed some light on the nature of their relationship. For years, certain similarities between Hewitt and Harry – ginger hair and freckles – led to rumours.
Diana’s hairdresser Richard Dalton has now weighed in on the controversy and even detailed his friendship with the late princess in a new memoir, “It’s All About the Hair.”
“It’s not possible,” Dalton told Fox News Digital.
“It was difficult… Harry was born shortly before her relationship with Hewitt. And I don’t think that’s possible.” To support his statement, Dalton claimed that Princess Diana’s brother and sister also had “bright red hair”.
“Harry and the Spencer family have red hair. Diana’s brother Charles had bright red hair when he was in college,” he said, adding that he used to cut his hair then.
He said Diana’s sister Sarah also had bright red hair, while her other sister Jane also had “more or less the same complexion as Diana.”
In his book, Dalton said that Diana “would have been deeply troubled” by reports that Hewitt was Harry’s father, and that “red hair was a feature of the Spencer family”.
According to reports, Diana and Hewitt met each other for the first time in 1986, two years after Harry’s birth in 1984.
Dalton writes in his book that Harry was born “long before Diana met James Hewitt”, and the two had a “love affair” that lasted for three years between 1989 and 1991. Both Harry and Hewitt have addressed this rumor in the past.
Last year, Harry sued an outlet for using illegal techniques “on an industrial scale” to influence his life.
“Many newspapers have spread rumors that my biological father was James Hewitt, a man with whom my mother had an affair after I was born,” Harry said in a written statement.
He added, “At the time of this article and others like it, I was actually not aware that my mother had not met Major Hewitt until after I was born.”
In 2002, Hewitt herself addressed the gossip and said, “There’s really no possibility that I’m Harry’s father. I can understand the interest, but by the time my relationship with Diana began Harry was already Was going on.”
