New Insta360 Link 2 and 2C webcams have AI noise cancellation, magnetic mount

The Insta360 Link was announced in 2022 with a 2-axis gimbal that allowed the webcam to track you as you moved around the room. Now the company has released its sequel and there are two versions of it – with and without gimbal.

The Insta360 Link 2 is a direct sequel to the original model, while the Link 2C doesn’t have a gimbal, giving it a more compact and lightweight form factor. Of course, it’s cheaper too.

A major selling point of this generation is AI-powered noise reduction, which reduces things like nearby conversations, keyboard sounds, and traffic noise. Both models support multiple profiles, including Voice Focus, Voice Suppression, and Music Balance.

The Link 2 and 2C have a 1/2” sensor with improved low-light capabilities and HDR, which helps preserve more details in the shadows. The lens has an f/1.8 aperture and features phase detection auto focus (PDAF). The cameras can create a DSLR-like bokeh effect to blur the background. They also support the usual background replacement feature.

The sensor offers 4K video at up to 30fps. You can use it in either horizontal or vertical orientation (with 4K portrait mode). The Smart Whiteboard mode is great if you use a whiteboard during your presentation as it will ensure the board stays in frame and in focus. There’s also a DeskView mode for overhead presentations. The PDAF system can focus at just 10cm / 4 inches if you need to show a product up close.

The lens has a 79.5° diagonal field of view (26mm in 35mm equivalent) and the cameras use AI-based tracking to keep you in the frame. There’s a new group tracking mode for presentations involving multiple people. Insta360 has also added pause-track areas, so you can move out of frame in certain places or hide certain areas.

The AI ​​also comes in handy for gesture control – you can use gestures to start/stop the camera AI tracking, zoom in and out, or enable the smart whiteboard mode. Alternatively, you can control the cameras from your smartphone.

The Insta360 Link 2 has a 2-axis gimbal, which creates smooth, stable footage. And it’s definitely much better at tracking you across the room. It also has a privacy mode, which points the camera downwards and mutes the mic.

Both cameras now have magnetic mounts, allowing you to attach them to metal surfaces. There’s a 1/4” tripod screw for traditional mounting. The cameras are compatible with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Twitch, and other platforms.
