Infosys founder NR Narayan Murthy shared that he now uses chats to prepare for his lectures and speeches. He says that the AI Tool has helped them to save a lot of time, cutting their preparation hours from about 30 to five. Talking to Moneycontrol, Murthy explained that first, he would spend about 25 to 30 hours to prepare each lecture, as he focused a lot on the creation of the right subject, structure and message. But his son, Rohan Murity suggested that he tries to use the chat, things changed. “In five hours of matter, I could improve the draft. In other words, I improved my productivity more than five times,” he said.
Murthy believes that this is a clear example of how AI can make people more productive rather than replacing them. He has always said that AI should be seen as a support tool to make the work easier and more efficient. He also told that AI is only useful when people ask the right questions. Recalling his son’s advice, Murthy said it is important to clearly define his needs when using AI. Only then the device can give useful response.
Murthy further stated that Indian IT companies can take advantage of this technique to speed up tasks like coding, reducing mistakes and solving more complex problems. With AI handling regular parts of work, Murthy believes that engineers and programmers can focus on smarter and more challenging tasks.
To better explain his ideas, Murthy compared the current AI Wave of how computers were introduced for the first time in the banking sector in the UK during the 1970s. He said that people were worried that the computer would quit the job, but the reality separated. Since banks began to use computers to complete rapid tasks, workers got more free time, and actually increased the number of jobs over the years.
He feels that something similar with AI will happen where, instead of reducing opportunities, it can help people to be better to define tasks and solve big problems.
Murthy shared her experience by launching a scholarship in IIM Ahmedabad through her family’s investment firm, Catamaran. The scholarship will support the top MBA student for 20 years each year. It will be funded through a mixture of equity and fixed income investments and is designed to adjust with inflation.
