Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor shared screen space in Rome-Com Nadaniyan, which was released digitally earlier this month. After the release of the film, both the major stars were subjected to harsh criticism on social media for their performance in the film. In response to this, Jugal Hansraj, who played Ibrahim’s on-screen father, condemned personal attacks on young actors.
Talking with India Today Digital today, addressing the online trolling of Jugal Hansraj, Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, said, “Criticism should be creative. If a person who knows about cinema or has some experience in the field or has some experience in the field or has an article, where they work where they work and what not, what is not, they cannot learn anything.”
He pointed out “personal attacks” on social media and labeled them as “silly and petty”. The actor said that even when he does not join a film, he does not call it “bad” and believes that it simply did not work for him. While commenting, he clarified his belief how some people believe about knowing everything.
The Nadani actor explained his point by comparing between the present and previous times. He mentioned that many actors started their career in the 80s, but were given time and space to grow because there was no social media.
He said, “When we started, we all had the same strange, but due to lack of social media, it was not an inappropriate investigation,” he further said.
The Mohabbatia actor underlined the fact about new people facing immense pressure due to intense spotlight. He said that in the world of social media, any critic can be, whether they have ever been on the film set or not.
On a closing note, he strongly condemned the nature of individual attacks, especially those targeted appearances.
“Personal attacks are not calm. If you have something creative to say, please say it. Such a response helps actors to learn and improve. But personal attacks about the appearance get mercies and mess. I am not clearly in favor of such criticism,” he said.
Jugal Hansraj did Dr. in Netflix’s film Nadaniyan. Sanjay Mehta played the father of Ibrahim Ali Khan.
