After nearly a decade, Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia has come to an end after selling over 100 million copies worldwide. With manga spinoffs, series, movies, and even video games, the franchise has garnered a huge fan base. There are some within the fan base who believe that Deku’s (Izuku Midoriya) legacy hasn’t been given proper justice.
Chapter #430 ends on a full circle note with All Might once again helping the quirkless hero. True, he doesn’t have a quirk, but his actions are superior to many other characters in the series. But according to some fans, the finale didn’t honor Deku’s character the way it should have.
Initially, fans were expecting a sort of romantic ending between Ochaco Uraraka and Izuku Midoriya, but instead, Deku mentioned that he appreciates her for always standing by him all these years. He says that she inspires him daily. Another important thing that was changed was the time jump.
Chapter #430 resumes 8 years later, with all of Class 1-A’s students graduating and working as heroes. Deku instead joins UA High School as a teacher and uses the embers of One For All to help others. Many fans expected Deku to continue his hero journey and keep OFA forever.
It is unknown what happens during the 8 years but it seems that Deku has a set routine. He doesn’t get to see his friends anymore because they all became heroes and have busy schedules. Throughout the series, we see these heroes come to Deku’s aid from time to time, which some fans saw as the hero’s weakness.
Another thing that is a subject of speculation is the new suit given to Deku by All Might. While the series is heading towards a false ending, All Might appears and gives the suit to Deku, saying that he deserved it, and that it was made possible by the efforts of his classmates. Will Deku’s new suit give him new powers? Who knows? Or will he go back to teaching at UA High School?
While the ending of My Hero Academia is bittersweet, Deku gets another chance to be a hero. Given the popularity of the series, it’s only a question of when, not if. Whether Deku comes back as a hero or not is in the hands of Kohei Horikoshi. Stay tuned for more updates on My Hero Academia!
