Mumbai named 5th best food city in the world – see which other Indian cities ranked

Mumbai named 5th best food city in the world – see which other Indian cities ranked

Mumbai’s distinctive food culture has received global recognition thanks to a recently released ranking by Taste Atlas, the popular food and travel guide. As part of the Taste Atlas Awards 2024-25, the guide has published ranking-based lists in various food-related categories. Mumbai ranked 5th in the list of “World’s 100 Best Food Cities”. Its first 4 cities are located in Italy: Naples, Milan, Bologna and Florence. Mumbai was followed in the top 10 by Rome, Paris, Vienna, Turin and Osaka. Referring to the overall list, the guide said, “Based on 477,287 valid food ratings for the 15,478 foods in our database, from the 17,073 cities in our database, these 100 cities serve the most regional and national cuisines out there.” Stand out with the highest average rating.”

On its website, Taste Atlas specifically mentions some of Mumbai’s must-try dishes, including Bhel Puri, Pav Bhaji, Vada Pav and Ragda Patties. It mentions some of the reputed traditional restaurants of the city like Ram Ashray, Shri Thakar Bhojanalaya, Cafe Madras etc. Other Indian cities have also made it to the Taste Atlas list of the 100 best food cities in the world, and three of them have made it. It is in the top 50 along with Mumbai. Amritsar was ranked 43rd, New Delhi 45th and Hyderabad 50th worldwide. Kolkata stood at 71st and Chennai at 75th. Check out the full list below:

Additionally, Taste Atlas has recognized particular regions of India as some of the “Best Food Regions” worldwide. Punjab was ranked 7th worldwide. The guide recommended dishes like Amritsari Kulcha, Tikka, Shahi Paneer, Tandoori Murgh and Saag Paneer. Other Indian states also made it to the top 100 list.
