After breaking viewing records with Netflix’s miniseries Dahmer, there’s a new addition to Ryan Murphy’s signature crime anthology series Monsters, based on the true story of the Menendez brothers who were convicted of brutally murdering their parents. Was arrested on the charge. The case seemed open and shut, but claims of sexual, mental and physical abuse towards the victims by the culprits gave it an entirely new dynamic.
Ari Graynor played lawyer Leslie Abramson, who took on the complex case but did not contact him in real life. “I knew she had made it clear that she never wanted to talk about any of her affairs,” Grainer told Variety. He said that despite being part of a sensational case, Abramson never gave interviews or statements related to it to the press because the case was “traumatic” to him.
Yet, according to Graynor, he never minces his words when talking about “the media and its influence on things.” The only publicity Abramson participated in was the 1997 release of his memoir The Defense Is Ready: Life in the Trenches of Criminal Law. Now, at the age of 80, she is retired and rarely seen in public.
Although the Sopranos actress did not interact with the lawyer in real life, she developed a distant connection and admiration during the filming of the series. Of the defense attorney, the actress said, “I feel very deeply connected to him and it’s like I’m in love with him from a distance.” “For me, most of this journey was about wanting to do him justice.”
Grainer revealed that he has tried emailing and contacting people who may have had an affair so that he could confess to her and “and tell her what I saw in her and if she ever wanted to talk.”
According to the actress, the Menendez brothers should have their case reheard in an effort to free them from prison. She thinks that if they are given a second chance, they will “make their lives meaningful and contribute beautifully to society.” Constantly declaring them wonderful human beings, Grainer mentioned that she would love to hug the brothers one day.
