Mohit Chauhan talks about how AR Rahman helped him emerge as an artiste. exclusive
Singer Mohit Chauhan says his experience working with composer AR Rahman was nothing short of spiritual and inspiring.

had an exclusive conversation with India TodayWhen asked what AR Rahman discovers in him that no one else can, Mohit Chauhan’s answer is deeply rooted in emotion, spirituality and shared values.
“AR Rahman himself is very spiritual,” says Mohit, and then explains how this trait impressed him. new song, my voice: “Whatever I say in my song my voice – Kindness, sympathy, compassion – he is the epitome of all this. I get to learn a lot from him.”
Recalling their first meeting, Mohit told how he sang Blood rushed towards From Give color to spring For Rahman. “Even before that, our paths had crossed,” he says. “And since then, it’s been a journey with her over many years. She’s incredibly inspiring.”
For Mohit Chauhan, performing with Rahman is not just about the music. “Whenever I perform with them, whenever I sing for them, the atmosphere that is created is beautiful,” he says. “That atmosphere helps me unlock myself as an artiste.”
Mohit recorded some of his most unforgettable Bollywood numbers for Rahman in Imtiaz Ali’s musical drama in 2011. rockstarwere talking about that musical event rockstarWhile every song becomes a chartbuster, Mohit is quick to give credit where it belongs. “The credit for this mainly goes to Rahman saab. When Imtiaz, whom I already knew, called me, he said, ‘Brother, I am making a film, and I will send you some songs to sing.’ That alone made me very happy. So, he sent me a song, then five or six days later he sent me another, and then five or six days later he sent a third song.”
Mohit recalls. “I told him, ‘Bro, I thought it would just be one or two songs.’
Then Imtiaz revealed the bigger picture. He said, “This is a special character, and AR Rahman Sir He said that we need Mohit’s voice and I was very happy to hear this. Ultimately I did 13 songs.”
Rockstar was a beautiful experience
Description of the process behind rockstarMohit describes it as nothing less than magical. “It was a crazy experience, nothing like this happens in any other project. For a year I kept going to Rahman SirStudio in Chennai, we all used to go together and sing. It was almost like a workshop. I saw songs being created before my eyes, sometimes there would be a 10 minute music session and out of that a song would slowly be created. Irshad must have been writing the lyrics and I saw the song being composed line by line right from the first line. It was really a beautiful experience.”
