Mithun Chakraborty recently received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024. Since he himself has made his mark in the industry, he also wants his children to fight their own battles. Perhaps this is one reason why he never asked anyone from the industry to provide work to his four children.
While speaking to NDTV, the veteran actor said that even though the world thinks of the entertainment sector as a ‘family industry’, he has the opposite opinion about it. Mithun Chakraborty told the publication that he has four children and all of them are working in films. “Till date, I have never asked any producer or anyone to give work to my sons,” the actor revealed.
The senior star also talked about his sons Namashi Chakraborty and Mimoh Chakraborty. While Namashi auditioned for a role in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Bad Boy, Mimoh worked with Vikram Bhatt in Haunted. Dada said that whether films work after giving one’s all to the characters or not is a separate discussion. “But I can tell you with all my feelings that I never encouraged my children and I told them that you have to fight your own battles,” he said.
The Kashmir Files actor also said that if one’s father is an actor and the son also becomes an actor, it does not just make a person an actor. According to him, the child should also have talent and if anyone lacks it, they will be asked to leave as per the rules of talent only.
In this exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Mithun da talks about the struggles that his son Namashi had to face to get his first film, Bad Boy. He said, “I would like to say that Namashi had to face a lot of pain. I say pain in the sense that I knew everything. That he is going to audition and how people have treated him. They didn’t even let him stand. I know everything. When he comes out, they will know that he is Mithun da (my) son and people inside will be like ‘Oh my God’. what did we do”
He also said, “I feel guilty. I feel a little guilty that if I said,..; Then I think that there are many like me; When I came into the industry. There are a lot of people in Mumbai who are struggling. Thinking this again I felt that I must go through this. He has been through it. The film he has got is completely his. Neither I nor anyone else ever called anyone. I am the same for everyone. One has to win in life. You have to fight. You have to fight on your own. He is lucky that the producers are very good.
In the same conversation, the young and rising star also spoke about his experience of working with Rajkumar Santoshi. Namashi Chakraborty told us, “Honestly, it’s a matter of luck. I think it was in my stars to be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. He was strict, he was a perfectionist but for me it was doubly so because he (Mithun Chakraborty) came to our film set to surprise me. Raj ji, an actor with experience of 400 films. I took it in my stride. When there are experienced people in a film, the work gets done very easily. In my first film with a legend like Raj ji, it’s definitely the goodwill of destiny more than anything else. We are both very lucky. He is a mind-blowing director.
