‘Miss Night and Day’ review: A perfect romantic comedy
Korean dramas excel at presenting unique storylines with conviction, and the new K-drama ‘Miss Night and Day’ is the perfect example. Thinking about giving it a watch? Read our review of the series first.

Trust Korean dramas to present the most bizarre plot twists with conviction. Call it their superpower, but K-dramas have cracked the code for supernatural, mystical dramas that resonate with global audiences. Take, for instance, the new K-drama ‘Miss Night and Day’, which is the story of a desperate woman who suddenly encounters a cat that transforms her into her 20s during the night and her 50-year-old self during the day.
Interestingly, ‘Miss Night and Day’ is not limited to just a romantic comedy. An interesting missing persons case adds an element of thriller to it. Lee Mi-jin (Jung Eun-ji) transforms into Lim Sun (Lee Jung-eun), her missing aunt, whose identity she is forced to adopt during the day.
Watch the trailer here:
She is constantly torn between two lives and identities. As Sun, she has to deal with her prosaic boss, Gi Ji-woong (Choi Jin-hyuk), who has secrets from her. As Mi-jin, she can’t help but feel overwhelmed by Gi and his kindness towards her.
It’s interesting how this whole chaotic plot seems to have a common thread connected to the missing cases in the area.
Jung Eun-ji from ‘Reply 1997’ fame and Jung-eun from ‘Our Blues’ fame are both superb. The two complement each other perfectly as Mi-jin and Sun, and you can see why the director chose them for these roles. They fit perfectly with each other and prove the phrase ‘the ying to her yang’ true.
Writer Park Ji-ha relies heavily on the actor’s ability to pull off slapstick with a precise energy that doesn’t feel heavy-handed. Despite the age difference, kudos to Jung-eun for bringing out the childlike energy in himself, which exemplifies why he’s one of the most celebrated actors in South Korea.
Jin-hyuk as Gay balances the comedy with his seriousness and a cute budding romantic side. He is the perfect notorious boss who is like a coconut – tough on the outside but very sweet on the inside.
If the first eight episodes are anything to go by, the show has seriously thought about addressing crime and bringing in a more subtle romantic track for the lead pair. However, the timelines can get complicated at times. Also, how can the switching between ages not be noticed by a larger section of the audience?
There are some flaws in the story, but the star cast makes it work with their charming personalities and screen presence. It is an easy story that will make you laugh and smile in parts. The writing could have been even better, but given the direction the track is moving in now, we have no complaints.
‘Miss Night and Day’ is available on Netflix and has aired 8 episodes. New episodes come every Saturday and Sunday.
